Every time I make new boards for a particular product, I like to try and make some improvements, if possible. In the case of the SCI cables, it's actually been a couple of years since I updated the basic design. This time around, I added a header so that an off-the-shelf FTDI cable will plug right in. No more soldering wires. These new design boards are available now and all future orders of the SCI cables will be this design. The purple board color wasn't my choice (I would have picked red); it's just the new board supplier's standard color.
I think I will also offer these as a cable-less option for those that prefer to get their own FTDI cable (or already have one). I still have to work up the pricing for the cable-less setup.
