I took my Targa GTP LX over to the scrap yard today to have an accurate weight.
No engine cover. No targa tops.

It scaled at 2320 pounds. Car only.
I was not in it.

my composite engine cover weighs 7 lbs(before i added the grills). Should have car weight next week-I'd be surprised if it were over 2100lbs. We'll see.

You never know what to believe but I have heard the series II cars weigh less than the series 1 cars. I wouldn't begin to know why unless the composite itself was lighter. In this case for the Series I hybrids (with series II ) parts, their car would weigh in more like the series I cars.

Steve, whats the last 3 numbers of your vin?

Well that is disappointing after seeing all the 1900 to 2100 numbers thrown around in the magazines. I'll cross my fingers and hope the scale was off! Or maybe the topless cars got chassis reinforcement like steel cars often do??

The nose mounted steel spare feels like about 50 pounds. Makes me think it was done as ballast to get the weight balance less uneven. Between the spare, jack and swapping the battery out for a lithium one, I'm sure you can drop 75 or 100 pounds right there. Wonder if that would effect handling.

Drop another 40 by going to revolutions or traklites.. Where else can we drop??

Is it funny we are talking about a 2320 pound car and complaining that it isn't light enough? :P

Yes, it is funny. BUT light means quicker.

Remove the nasty wool carpet to save weight and reveal the nice fiberglass shell underneath. Win win

My carpet is not nasty, and can't weigh much. I'd loose more by not eating one full day.

My carpet was nasty and weighed 5 lbs ish. First thing I removed and made it look so much better.

I also removed fuel tank cover but may put that fitted carpet back in

For clarification were you in or not in the car?

Not in the car.

If anyone wants to weigh their car, I am sure most scrap metal places would do it for you.
We have scales around here for trucks coming out of the woods for log trucks but they are
50 pound increments only so cant get a perfect weight. Thats why I took it to the scrap metal place.

Did you weigh with you in car as well for scale accuracy?

Scale is checked, it is a large com pay here that does scape metal buys.
The car was empty, except bout 3/4 tank of fuel.

Well fuel is close to the mass of water, being around 8 lbs per gallon. So even if it was a 16 gallon tank, only looking at 96 lbs gained.

I don't think I'd call it 'close' to water weight, water is about 8.5lbs/gal whereas gas is just under 6. So with 3/4 tank(12 gals) 72lbs would be the best estimate;)
