When my Consulier came home, I flushed the aluminum tank repeatedly with kerosene until it flowed out clear. Then I replaced all the fuel lines, fuel filters and fuel pump. I took off the fuel rail and wiped and sprayed the injectors clean. It fired up and has run great but now I have some clogged injectors. I replaced the fuel filter before the pump and I could have used it as a baby rattle with all the rust colored ---- that was inside. The only thing I can think of that would be causing the rust would be the sending unit. Has anyone replaced this?
Does anyone have a part number?
Is there anything I'm missing that would cause the rust?
What steps should I take now?
In 2000 mine had 38K on it and it now has 39K. I know it sat for a long time and I'm sure the fuel was varnished. Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Harold

I just saw this post Harold. I've got a replacement sending unit I picked up from Rossion. I'll get the part number off of it next time I'm at the shop for you. I've also been told that the sending unit is a common aftermarket piece used in boats.

I need that too.

My tank is not aluminum, but plastic. No baffles and the level indicator was upside down which would cause reverse readings IF someone would have hooked up the ground wire. MSD 2225 Fuel pump is mounted in the passenger compartment just above the tank and there is a pre- and post filter for it. Photos coming soon.

Mine ended up as VDO Fuel Sender Unit = #226001

As did mine-and it was a non functioning, rusted mess although everything else was clean. Careful when removing the bolts securing the unit as they are threaded into soft aluminum and strip easily. My pump was externally mounted.

So FORZAV12….is your tank aluminum or is it like Chris'?

I am guessing that the aluminum tank might be a post '88 thing.

My tank is aluminum as well. I ended up cleaning up the sending unit. Soaked in evapo-rust over night after wire brushing it and it reads just fine.
The only problem it had before was a dead spot at about 1/2 tank and the rust of course.
