Cars quicker than 10.80 are not allowed in Daily Driver, and e.t. slips quicker than 10.80 will not be
accepted.

If you go into any other categories you'd be considered small block power adder. Pretty sure most of us would be uncompetitive in those.

Yeah, kind of the same thing I see as well. Unfortuantely it looks like I will be slowing the car down. On the plus side, hopefully less chance of breakage.

Truck and trailer stays at original location which would be at BG. No support vehicles. You can have a trailer attached to your vehicle that you're competing with.

This....and all of the parts/tools that you use have to be carried by yourself. Parts/tools can be bought/traded with other drag week competitors.

Helping is encouraged, but if you need an SUV load of guys to help you tune the car at every stop, then there is a problem... Generally speaking for Daily Driver class they don't worry too much.

There are people that follow the competitors from track to track. One of the big "issues" is making a parts run if you break something. So if you want to be the parts gopher/extra wrench, that would work. Alternatively, on the road it is helpful to have a co-pilot reading the directions. I may be looking for a co-pilot, but I won't know for a few months...

As an alternative, I am looking for a way to program a GPS with the directions Hot Rod gives us...

With the route being the way it is, I can possibly get buy without getting a hotel room. After BG is Indy so I can just stay at home, then after Stl is Memphis, my dad lives about an hour from Millington. That and I have a van and an air mattress.

There are several people that camp. You will be in BG for at least one night (registration Sunday, racing starts Monday.)

PS. If you are on the fence about going, get on the list now, it is only getting longer and it will be several months before people start dropping out...

Pricey is right! But that is a great little trailer. Thanks for the link.
You could probably bolt down a couple of those trailer hitch type racks to it to load tools and gear/wheels. They make those racks out of aluminum too so that shouldn't add too much weight.

I may be using one of these...it's a Coleman Versa Trailer. Scott Drega's father has one that he hasn't used in years that he offered to me. Need to replace the lights, tires and probably give it a clean up but the price (or lack thereof) is definitely right and it's got a cover. It's 4'x6' and is about 2' deep with the top. It will add a ton of carry space.

Forcedfedmopar won the 4 cylinder class in 2011 with his GLH-T, averaged high 11s IIRC. Ed, I can't remember his screenname offhand, with the P-body ran in 2011 as well.

Yup, I ran my Shadow in 2011 and my Spirit R/T in 2012. The Spirit was a last minute substitution. In most of the videos you can hear the announcer referring to it as a black Shadow... One run he goes back and forth between it being a Spirit and a Shadow. It was Wednesday before I realized the car was running on only 5-6psi of boost. Then Thursday I lost spark at the top end of the track...

Dear Hot Rod Drag Week registered racers:
You are receiving this email because you have signed up for this year’s race. If you are certain you can’t attend Drag Week, we will process only a 50-percent refund (not including the processing fee) and only for requests made prior to midnight Pacific time on August 15. After August 15 there will be no refunds of your pre-registration fee, however, if after August 15 you find you still need to drop out please notify us as soon as possible. We still have an extensive wait list. The maximum for 2013 will be 250 cars. We strongly encourage you to notify us as soon as you are certain you can’t make it to the race. Please open a spot for another racer who could be ready to run. You would want them to do the same for you.
Also, we are in the process of conducting our final meetings with each track. We will have additional information available next week as a result of those meetings. Watch for a comprehensive email that will be sent to every registered racer.
Thanks, and we will see you at this year’s Hot Rod Drag Week.

I also did a few things to the car lately. Pics attached. I also found out why my turn signals weren't cancelling after a turn......who knew their is a right-side-up on a L-body steering wheel??? LOL

So the only incentive for cancelling after August 15th is so they will invite you back next year. Thats poor business imo if they have an "extensive" wait list. Keep the registration fee but return the entry money.

Nope, that's Polk 6.5" in the doors to replace the factory Infinity's I had in there, and that's Polk crossovers in the AMJAM hole and Polk tweets in flush mounted in the dash cap. Sitting still they sound great on the 25watt RMS Kenwood headunit power, but on the road, you pretty much only hear the tweets for now..... Trying to quite down the exhaust a little more, and may add a 2 channel 100watt RMS amp behind the dash.

Brad Morris (morrispower), and myself will be in my OMNI. Warren Hall (csxtra) and Paw Reeves will be in Paw Reeves' Charger (only spectating).

Did a test run last night with trailer. Had wheels/tries on it and toolbox. Did not have all spare parts on it yet, but it rode like it wasn't even back there. Very excited about that.

I took my old drag radials off the front and put on a different set of street tires. I drove the OMNI to work this morning and anything over 65 mph they vibrate pretty bad. I may get the balance on them checked again, but I'm thinking they may have flat spots from being so old.

Anyone know if you can use a different car or if you gotta run the one registered?

Trans is all apart again and pretty sure its the front intermediate shaft bearing and the OBX is possibly making noise too. Guess the hammering of axle snappage might have beat some parts up. Between this and all the other stuff that needs to be checked out on the car and busy at work, I'm outta time, the car will not make it to drag week :(

I've been kind of worried about that. They will not be carrying anything for me or the car, but I'm worried that them following me around may look suspicious? They just want to spectate and make the trip. Is it going to be a problem? Would they not be allowed to pit where I pit? Is there a spectator only area? Can we eat lunch at the track together? Not just following around, but also helping to wrench on the car. As I understand it, no one but participants (those riding in the cars) can help work on the car, nor can they carry or bring any parts.

If I bust my car, you can help fix it or help me with parts, run me to a parts store, etc, but if Warren is spectating/riding in Paw Reeves' Charger, then he can't.

(This has been debated a lot on other forums)

Generally there is participant parking and spectator parking, but there is nothing forcing you to park in any particular location...

To be honest, the "test"/"punishment" for cheating (ie. having a car full of people helping you wrench/tune at every stop) is the sequester area where they can "watch you" more closely. So if you are not cheating, then you are fine. Plus, if you are in the sequester area, you get priority access to the staging lanes! (ie. if there is a long line of cars and you want to run, you get to cut in front of them!)

The "spirit of the event" is racers helping racers. So if you break something, don't be afraid to let others help (and even supply parts!)

I would still have them park over in the spectator area and you will be fine.

MB and I are still planning on going tho to crew/spectate, etc. Unless they let me run a backup car?

I will have the car wash open. We will have pizza/chips/soft drinks and can have adult beverages ready if the specific requests are made. The garage will be available for anyone needing to do some adjustments or (heaven forbid) repairs. I know the Reeves Clan is planning on being there. I believe JT and Mary Beth are coming over too. Not sure about Pat and his guys but they have been invited and are more than welcome! Nate (88pacifica) will be hanging out as well.

When will you get an auto :)?

When the heaviest car in the 10's running an auto is no longer weighing hundreds of pounds less and just making a few passes and then parking (the FWDP CSX). Put 1000+ pounds back into the BSX and I don't think everything would be so simple as people make it seem. Gus advice #1, lose weight to save the drivetrain. Red Sled and others still can't seem to get in a good spot with their high dollar 3 speeds. 3 speeds which they still prefer over the dogbox t850s.

Nope, you can run slicks. Most guys just swap tires at the track, then put the street tires on before heading out to the next hotel. Heck, there was a lifted 4x4 truck in '11 that ran relatively agressive mudding tires but swapped to little drag radials for the races; that thing looked funny with the DRs on it.

IIRC the red Mustang driven by Jon Wischmann is still running DRs for the entire event, not swapping tires at the track. He's running 8.6-8.8 so far this year. He's an engine machinist from Lincoln so there are a bunch of guys on our local board following his progress. What a way to reinforce your reputation to your customers that your work is top notch.

Damn Pep Boy's live feed! Why are more than 32 cars in the daily driver class racing today? It appears they are still vying for a spot in the final 32.

It turns out that each class got to run Friday so they could get their 5-day averages. Hero Reeves moved up to become the #9 qualifier in the Daily Driver class, and Pat moved up to #26 I believe.

James let all of the magic smoke out of his alternator on his last qualifying pass on Friday, but thanks to JT and Marybeth who went to the parts store to get him another one, he was able to get it back together before the Daily Driver Quick 32 finals last call. (The guys from Pep Boys didn't have one with them...they said it was Mike's fault for not telling them to bring one...and they did not have any Type R stickers either :( ).

In the finals, Pat red-lit by only .010 seconds, and James won two rounds before losing by breaking out to finish fifth. The ironic thing is that the guy Pat lost to was the overall Daily Driver winner, and the guy James lost to was runner up.

James won the Quickest Four-Banger award with an 11.56 average from all five tracks (on pump gas and minimum-attainable boost :eyebrows:).

Congrats to James, JT, Pat, and Ed for successfully making it through the grueling week of racing and over 1000 miles of driving in 100 degree weather, and properly representing turbo Mopars!!

Dave, Barry and I our way home now...what a freaking blast! 1200 miles in the Shadow, pulling a trailer, 5 races on 4 different tracks in 5 days. It was nuts!

Setting up for the event, I set the car up for 12.0's thinking that would be plenty to qualify while keeping the car safe. After day 1, we immediately realized the class was much faster (the bump was a second faster than its been in recent years) so we ended up having to push the car harder as the week went on. Went 12.04 in Bowling Green, 11.93 in Indy, 11.83 at Gateway, 11.64 at Memphis (traction issues-I had trouble with the track there. Made 7 passes!), then back in Bowling Green, I spun hard the first pass and went 11.72. I only got to make one other pass before I had to turn a slip in. On that second pass, it hooked well and pulled great to an 11.49 @ 118.4. being teched only to 11.50, I had to turn in the 11.72 slip.

That left us with a 5 day average of 11.83, which fortunately was enough to get us into the Q32 brackets. Unfortunately in the brackets, I lit the red bulb in the first round with a -.012. I needed a good light and thought I nailed it, but ended up nailing it on the wrong side of perfect. Oh well! :-)

We had a great time hanging with Reeves, Brad, Warren, Paw Reeves, JT, Mary Beth and Ed. I will definitely do this again in the future.

Oh, and that Reeves guy...he really is kind of a big deal. :-)

I think about 32 people dropped out due to breaking to a point that they could not continue.

Overall that event was a blast. Extremely tiring, especially with the heat.. but amazing. It's so different than anything I've ever experienced. Was also really neat to see such high-dollar race cars pulling trailers around. haha!
Was glad our little 4-banger club showed up and all finished the event without really any trouble. Congrats to Pat and Reeves in making the field!! Great Pics MB, Howz bout some more info on the Corvair,Opel, Sunbeam, and Saturn?

The Corvair was sitting as the #1 qualifier for the daily driver class. It's LSx powered. The Saturn, which I also believe was LSx powered, never saw it again after day 1... so not sure what happened to it. The Opel... is this the orange car? That's an Australian Holden. They actually shipped it here for this event. Unfortunately it ran into a ton of problems, so it never made a clean pass. The car is certified to 6.0; and is Toyota Supra (2jz) powered usually running around 60psi. I think for the Sunbeam, you are referring to the Triumph. (dark blue convertible with a huge turbo?) That is actually a 400 pontiac engine! So he took the award for fastest pontiac! lol! (Since a very high percentage of the cars there were now LSx powered).

I was watching and pulling for you! And all the TM's as I am sure the others here were also! I think the omnis get the most love because peeps know with a single glance its an underdog. Shadows spirits Daytonas etc, peeps see them and arent sure about the displacement.

It was a great job by all the T-M peeps enduring Drag Week! I know I enjoyed watching them run here in Indy and getting to spend a little time with them! (Not as much as we originally planned since they discovered that Drag Week is as much a marathon drag racing event for cars as it is a physical and mental drag on the drivers and crews as well!) I'm glad they got to stop by Fleck's Mopar Manor for a bit of relaxing before the second day of racing and the trip to fame and glory!

"I was there and saw that s#!+ !!!!"

It was awesome getting to see my buddy Pat and the killer Shadow for the first time in quite a while. He is another person I give credit to in getting me interested in getting a Turbo III car and my Spirit R/T. (it was back in aught six and I remember it it like it was yesterday...we were in Topeka, KS heading west....okay it was actually at SDAC-16 and the SRT Nationals)

James, the Omni looked good as always and did not disappoint. I mentioned about a year or two ago that you should run this event as I knew your car would do well. It did as well or better than I guessed! YOu rock and are my and many other's hero!

JT and MB: Bang up job in the back-up ride! It may not have been the original plan but you did us proud! You beat the beans out of an AWD DSM and it didn't spit out the trans or viscous couplings! That is talent! MB even palyed with my son in the morning before they left on his slide/playset! What a great sport!

You guys are all heros and "The Best" in my book!

Who all is going to be in Memphis? We are trying to set you guys up some shade, water, fans, and possibly a lunch. I get home from work @ 5am, so, I'll be at the track when the gates open. If anyone needs it I can handle parts runs in Memphis and arrange overnight shipping to the next track if needed.

I'm just starting to feel a bit more normal again and am realizing that I should thank all of the SDAC support we received...we had track support from many SDAC/TM members, offers for places to stay and trailers ready to pick us up if we ended up having to drop out. Jon Trotter and John Fleck had houses full of people crashing on couches (sorry my group didn't make it to either...but we appreciate the offers!), we saw Fleck at the track in Indy, Larry Buford at Gateway and John Roberts (glhs0426) at Memphis with a massive lunch spread for us. Memphis BBQ, drinks, ice for our trip...it was just awesome. Thanks to all of you guys for the support! You all helped make the trip as cool as it was. :-)

I just have to congratulate you all for your personal achievements, in such a grueling event.

Also want to thank you for providing those of us that followed online with a great deal of fun for the week.

In the short conversation I had with our guy who drove the PepBoys's support vehicle, looks like I'll be tagging along next year, hopefully with a good supply of Nippondenso alternators, trailer lights, and Type R stickers for all.

Awesome!

I have to go next year.

Yes, for sure you do!

We're taking the consulier next year!

Does anyone know if walkups got in this year?

Yes, quite a few walkups got in due to some no shows.

Damn Pep Boy's live feed! Why are more than 32 cars in the daily driver class racing today? It appears they are still vying for a spot in the final 32.

Yes, they had a 5th day of qualifying that we didn't know about.

I totally agree with this statement.

Yes, BIG THANKS to Fleckster, Nate, Larry Buford, John Roberts, Jon Trotter, and others that helped out along the way. Fleckster had the Mopar Manor awaiting our arrival for HOURS before we got there...who knew it would take us 10 hours to get from Bowling Green to Indy. Geeze....we learned our lesson the first day on that one. John Roberts had the biggest spread of Memphis BBQ with all the fixins, Gatorade, Water, Ice, canopy setup, chairs, etc before we even got to the track! Wow! Thanks so much! It was nice to actually have a normal lunch (Brad (morrispower) and I were living off of beef jerky in the OMNI). Thanks to Jon Trotter for the place to crash, lasagna, and for getting us 2 big Growlers of local Memphis brew! It was great (and potent!).

LOL! I broke both taillights on the trailer when it flipped backwards on us at St. Louis. Brad duct taped them back together so we could make it to Memphis. Put on LED taillights there and they are much brighter and the turn signals work much better! The alternator starting only charging above 2000 rpm about 2 days into the trip. On the 1st pass in Bowling Green on the last day, it let out it's magic smoke :( HUGE thanks to JT and MB for getting me one in quick order. I heard that the speed from the parts store back to the track got MB grabbing for the "oh schit" handles. Thanks so much.

I had SUCH a good time, words can not even describe. I am STILL worn out.

Get this.....we got home from Drag Week at 1am on Friday night. Everyone was in bed when I got home, so me and Brad unloaded the tag-a-long trailer, put tools away, put slicks/skinnies on the car, changed the oil, changed the fuel (from pump back to race) and got to bed about 2:30am. AT 7am we finished loading up and headed to Norwalk for the Monster Mopar World Finals. After 1st pass up there, my CSR Electric water pump died. Man was I sure glad that it happened there and not on drag week!!!

Flekster: your son is adorable! he's hilarious, too!

And JT, <3 Glad the stupid car still defied all dsm logic and has proven to be reliable. Those are two words that really don't belong in the same sentence. Thank you for showing me how to properly drive it, too. Was ecstatic to see it run an 11 at the end of the week!

Love the video, Mary Beth! Glad you guys were able to finally make it over!

Thanks for the kind words for Carson. He cracks me up, too! ("How does daddy's car go?"......"rrrrrrmmmmm, pshhhhhh......rrrrrrmmmmmm, pshhhhhh")
Lucky for him he has his mom's looks and dad's sense of humor and interest in cars. Mentally, I think we are about the same age!
I hope he didn't bother you while you were nice enough to play with him. He is a great kid.

It wasn't cheap but for a week it wasn't too bad. Registration was $290, hotels for us were about $775, gas was about a tank per day for my car and food can be as cheap as you want to feed yourself for seven days. I had two with me which definitely helped reduce costs ( hotels, gas and reg all split).

Registration not that big of a deal.I could probally cut the hotel exspense down some.I just need a floor to sleep on.Gas nothing really you can do about that.Has there ever been a turbo van at dragweek? Are you going to do it again next year?

+1, will depend on where it is...

Glad we took the Plan B car, while putting the axles back in the Z tonight noticed one alternator bolt loose and one missing! I mean 2 of the 4 tiny bolts that hold the two halves of the case together! Yeah, the car vibrates a lot LOL... Will definitely get a ton more street driving in way ahead of time if I plan to take the Z...
