Just thought I'd share some pics of the work I'll be doing on my convertible. I apoligize for the quality; they were taken with my camera phone.

Here it is with the seats out, getting ready to pull the trim:

Now, with all the trim removed:

Replacing the drivers' seat, 'cuz I've gotta be able to drive it while I fix the floorpan. In this picture, you can see the VOM I'm using as an O2 gauge. :-)

Here's what I'm up against on the drivers' side:

...and the passenger side:

I'll be fixing it by grinding away the major stuff, wire brushing the rest, and then using POR-15 and fiberglass cloth. The parking brake cable hole is a little too big for POR-15+'glass, but it's the best option I have right now. It's working fine now with just sunshine holding it together, some reinforcment won't hurt. :-)

you would really be surprised how strong the fiberglass cloth can be. Fixed a friend of mines floor pan in an 85 toyota pickup. Had a hole in it the size of a softball if not a little bit bigger. Yes you can stand on the glass.

That's not too bad...I've fixed worse. I would really consider cutting out the area and welding in a plate. POR-15 over fiberglass is quite strong, though.

Does anybody have any solid information about the build sheets from 1985? I was told they live under the carpet in the back, passenger side.

I didn't find anything under my carpet; not even junk that seemed to have been a build sheet. :-(

From my knowledge (word of mouth and working at an assembly plant), it's a crap shoot to find a build sheet in the car.

It's not a nescesary item to be there. It it is, it's because it never got in the way of the final assembly workers. And possibly they had the thought "It's ain't my job" ;)

When I worked at the Brampton plant, I put any I found in an inconspicuous place because I know people like to find them.

I got a new one printed off at the dealer once. Took my LeBarons VIN in and asked for a "function 69".

LOL, I like "funtion 69" too, but it never yeilded a build sheet for my Daytona! LOL!!!

I know on Spirits (non R/T's) they are under the passenger side carpet. Out of the 3 spirits I have worked on I found them in all the cars.

Since we are talking about floor pan fixes, how about diamond plate floor pans in a shelby Z. I know its kinda ricerish, but all out race cars had it before imports even thought of going fast. That and I can find any good floormats in the yards so I thought why not. I might add that I plan on it only to overlay like a floor mat and not be the floor itself. The floors are getting cleaned thoroughly and coated with a rust preventative such as POR-15. Its rust free and I aim to keep it that way.

A friend showed me a cool trick for fixing holes. Buy a can of rubberized undercoating and a cheap dishrag. Spray the area around the hole, spray one side of the dishrag, then lay the sprayed side of the dishrag over the hole and shape carefully. Allow it to sit for about 1/2 hour, then spray the whole dishrag again, overlapping onto the metal. Unbelievable how simple and durable that was. Did it on his '88 Trooper (and yes it had rust issues).

thats somewhat what I used to do my L body shifter hole seal up job..

I made a metal block off and painted one side of it with the rubberized undercoating.. I sprayed the area where the plate was going to be stuck to.. let it dry for a few days.. Then I used some industrial stregnth adhesive to stick the metal plate to the floor sprayed side down..

Then I just went to town with the coating stuff over it..

I did the same on the bottom of the truck and made sure to full up the 3 bolt holes from the shifter..

Its solid..

I have a big pile of old furnace ductwork kickn around. I use that, shape it and weld it in. seal the seams with tar.

I'll be the master of floor rot repair after I am done with this lebaron.. and rocker pannel replacement.. hey.. I'll be a rust removin machine!!
