When you replace pistons and rods with new ones do you have to have the motor rebalanced.

No, but if your rebuilding it, IE crank is out etc, I highly recommend having it all balanced with the clutch and pressure plate, makes a difference.

For a motor that will live at stock output, you can skip it, but it's recommended for high output or high revving.

If you bought everything as a set it should be matched, and should be okay for medium output on an unmessed with crank. If you've pieced it together, had the crank resized, then at least get the pistons and rods within a gram or two of each other for a stock-medium build or a fully rotating assembly balance for hi-po or high rev build.

There's never "have to", you have free will!:)

That said, I would, it makes a difference, not in HP, but in longevity and smoothness... Besides, you don't want to put it together and find out it's a shaker... No fun to live with and a PITA to pull and disassemble, etc, which means you probably won't do it and just be PO'd about it whenever you drive it...

My .02 anyway, good luck with the build!
