I'm just wondering the difference in a 1 piece t2 fuel rail and a 2 piece fuel rail. are they interchangeable?

The mounting is very different, so they're not interchangeable.

I'm not sure what differences may be within and year to year.

Completely different animal. They definitely are not interchangeable. 1 piece bolts on with 2 bolts, 2 piece with 4 bolts.
