This is my first real big project. Got the car with no motor or trans[used to be an auto] and had been sitting for about 4 years. Built it up last summer. Drilled holes for the clutch cable and shifter cables. Many trips to the wreckers for random nuts and bolts to make it all work right. The car came with a wrecker random 2.5L T1, 5 speed trans and gas/brake/clutch peddle.

After about 3 months of driving it around, a rocker popped off while driving and block started to knock. I needed a project for school so I brought in the Spirit for my ELT autobody class. I got bored during the class for a week or so, so I decided to pull the motor one day seeing as I had an 88 T2 block set aside for it. I've got a new ported head for it and a lot of parts painted up. Looking for a chipped 92 comp if anyone has. Here are photos from class and up to date pics. Block isn't in just yet

The blue fuel rail and fpr I just painted tonight along with two other pieces. All motor mounts are now painted black as well

Also, if no one noticed, I drilled out two 3" holes in the front for future IC plumbing ;)

Beautiful build. I'm so glad that there are people in the world who realize that repairing an older vehicle to like new is so much more efficient and environmentally friendly than buying a Prius. Not only did you save a car that would have been sold as scrap by most people, you gave it the engine that should have come in it from the factory. Bravo.

Hats off to you and props for the excellent job you have done so far! You've got a rare car there, not very many Spirits in 1992 were optioned with the T1 engine...IIRC, what I read years ago was there were less than 100.

I don't think the TI came in that car. He just got a TI and 5 speed with it.

Oh ok, that may be true...I was just going off the 1st picture in the article, you can see the "TURBO" decal on the passenger door rub strip.

I think you're right. I wasn't paying attention to the badging, just the beauty of the last few pictures. They did a 2.5 TI automatic Spirit? Sounds like a transmission killer.

Yes they did make turbo spirits in 92. EXTREMELY RARE. As stated i think less than 100.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had no idea so few were ever made. I like that haha. Yes it came stock with a 2.5L T1 and auto trans. I can't wait to get some wheels back on it and the engine in to fix it's stance. The nose is up in the air due to no motor. Hopefully in a week I'll have the block in there. I rebuilt the turbo, head and cleaned and painted everything I could so far. I've never rebuilt a block and didn't have time or space when I was in school so I gave it to a machine shop to do it. Plus I wanted to make sure it was done right!

Here's a few photos of it just after I got it running with the wrecker motor in it!

I'll be sure to keep updated when the motor is in. Yes, it will be at the track!

You should put this thread in the Project Log section. Excellent work so far. I have the production #s for 92 Spirit turbos, I can't remember the # off the top of my head but it is low. You could get the 2.5 turbo in the LE and ES that year.
