I am thinking of selling my 2.5 pistons and going with a 2.2 (of course...swap crank, etc..)

But my turbo has the .63 a/r and an S3 whel with 50trim and E housing.

Anyone had bad spool issues with a 2.2 and S3 wheel?

I think that the spool characteristics of the S3 wheel are pretty well known for a 2.2. It largly depends on the setup as to how "bad" it will be. Also the street only, grag only etc...

I would stick with a S2 wheel unless it is a drag only car, or your head can flow some very serious CFMs.

All depends on the head

What are we talking then? My head... not sucky, but not awesome, either. I'd say in between someplace... 180 cfm on the intake.

I know i sound selfish...but i really want hp! (but not lag until 4,500 rpms)

Just go DBB turbo....best of both worlds!

I think you would the S2 more however if you already have a S3 in your posession it is definently not worth switching to a S2 as the S3 will be just fine.

If its a street car, get an adjustable cam sprocket. When driving around town, advance the cam timing, when at the track, retard it. Thats what I do. Takes all of 10 secs, :eyebrows:

Yes, I have had the turbo for a few years. The turbine housing and compressor have both been professionaly ported (meaning... not by me)

Just switch pistons or overbore to go with the 2.2s as my block has been machined for the coated 2.5's I have. Get one of my 2.2 cranks and go. What are everyone's rpms at when full boost hits on a 2.2 with S2 wheel (and S3 if anyone has trie it)

I've heard years back that some have had negative results with the S3 in a 2.2.

I think you will be good. Most of the OVC cars (aka half owned by Ken) run S3 on their 2.2L. LOL. Or somethign like that! hehehhe

I have not cranked up the boost to really high levels in my omni yet, but the S2 wheel is at 15PSI at about 34-3500RPM last I was really on it and the clutch was holding.

Steve. the 180 intake # will be fine. You shouldn't have an issue.

Speaking from experience? What rpm would full boost be at with the s3 on a 2.2 vs 2.5?
