I have been porting exhaust manifolds as long as I have been porting heads. I always wanted to do this. I am not finished with the project, but thought I would give you all a peek.4311143112

Sweet. Problem is how to keep it that way. ;)

Theres the proof. You CAN polish a turd!

I've always had this theory that polished steel/iron won't rust nearly as easily as a rough cast piece would. Care to test that theory?

i think a phosphoric acid bath will give it a passive coating like you find on those blackened metal wrenches. Problem is, then it would be black.
What is your long term surface coating/treatment plan Steve?

"ported & polished stocker" > "ported stocker"

:D

Beautiful work as always Steve :hail:

I think it has to do with surface area/roughness, but temperature sycling is also involved, so it may delay, but will still happen.

That might work for a bit but guessing the temps would cook it off.

1) Time to do this has been far too long. A few days.
2) The corrosion issue will be interesting as I do not plan to do anything to it. The manifold was sitting for a couple weeks after I first polished an area and has not begun to rust. I thought these had a nickle content?
3) I was thirsty my friend!
4) You can polish a turd is true!
5) Thanks JT. I am anxious to see this to completion, but it will sit until the other priorities are done.

I don't always polish my exhaust manifolds, but when I do, I can see my face in them!

LMAO!

Polished metal is more rust resistant. I have a lot of knives and the bead blast and sand blasted blades rust far quicker than stonewashed, polished or satin finished blades.

these crack, like cast does. But with rods for instance it makes them stronger by removing surface fractures where the cracks start. Maybe not worth it to polish to shinny but it may be worth it to really sand one down before ceramic coating one though to make it last longer.
