hi everyone

thanks for replies to my previous thread, very valuable info:)

anyway wanted to ask about this - found this scoring in one part of my center housing - on the Compressor side of that thing - in upper half of that hole where the bearing is supposed to be mounted -

though wondering if that scoring could damage my new parts?? or its not a huge problem?

I dont know how did this get in there as its not my center housing...

EDIT: I suppose that the shaft is rotating inside the bearing - lubricated by oil - and the bearing itself is held in that hole steady - so it is not rotating in it, is it right? or the bearing is rotating in that hole as well?? (thus these scores could do damage to it..?

thank u in advance

You can't use that, the bearing rotates with the shaft on a thin film of oil, that damage will destroy the new bearing quickly. You can have a turbo shop bore out the housing and supply you with an oversize bearing.

I concur.

The "floating" sleeve bearings in a turbo actually spins at about 1/2 speed of the shaft, so it needs the housing to be cleanly machined, or the outside of the bearing will be chewed up when it spins, or worse, it won't spin and the turbine shaft will be damaged, which means a new turbine wheel, etc...
