View Full Version : TIII Any interest in 92+ rocker shaft hold downs

I know people with 91 TIII engines are always looking for 92+ rocker shaft hold downs. I could machine some sets up if there is a demand for them. I think I could do a set (18 hold downs) for $75 shipped. So this is more of a feeler if I should start a group buy or not. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks Adam

That's a great plan as people want $100 plus for USED one's.

I need a half a set, lol.

These will work with the rest of the 91 hardware? I know the 92 stuff is better but not sure why.

Yes they will work with all your 91 hardware. Just bolt these down in place of the 91 hold down. The 92+ hold downs have more surface area so they are not as prone to digging into the side of the rocker arms.

Count me in for a set as well then.

Would love to see new rollers for the stock rockers if it ever came up too, I think I remember someone saying they are no longer available as well. I know I have at least one I need to replace. Would be nice to replace the whole set for peace of mind.

Thanks again for doing this, and all the help!

Hey Adam
If you end up making these how about if you make them "wrap around" the rocker shaft a little more than the production 92-93 stuff? That might even make some old 91 rockers that are gouged out useable again.

Sounds Good! As for the roller. I dont think mopar ever offer a replacement roller. I think you had to buy the whole rocker. It would be very had to remove the pin with out messing up the pin bore because the pins are peened over on each end. I have taken one of my junk rocker apart and it did not end up well for the rocker. You would have to machine the peened area of the pin away to press the pin out with out messing up the rocker, but then you would need new pins.

Good idea! We may be able to warp around a little more. I will have to look tonight to see how much we can go before it will hit the casting of the head.

LOL, I wanted a set and someone had half a set so I bought them, figured half was better than none, :eyebrows:

Then I bought a complete head and it had them, so there's my story. :D

Adam, how difficult would it be to get a set with an oversize width, say +0.030" or +0.040" ? Reason i ask is i have a set of rockers that were gouged 0.015-0.020" deep by the old 91 style retainers on an engine i pulled from a scrapper. I was thinking of having the rockers machined flat again (my brother is a machinist) but i would then need wider retainers. Not sure if its worth going this route or not, I may just look for a replacement set of rockers but i thought i'd ask.

Thanks and great work!

Adam, another nice product!

Chris, it would probably be easier to source or have custom washers made to take that extra gap. That way those retainers can be used with any rocker like if one were to break.

That's the beauty of the newer style, you can use them on the damaged rockers as they go past the damage and he's looking at making them even longer.

I could do that but like the others have said you may be better off getting some spacer/washers to take up the extra space.

From the looks of it I will only be able to wrap them around the rocker shaft an extra .125" before they starts getting close to the head.

I can do some measurements if you'd like and take some pics with them on a head!

Thanks! But no need to. I have a full set on my car that I took a look/measurements off of.

You can count me in. It looks like the head is coming off my 91 in order to replace the head gasket. I might as well get some more life from the rockers while I'm at it.

-Clark

I finished replacing the head gasket on the R/T and the rockers looked brand new. I'm going to hold off on this purchase.

With numerous things that can be done to the 91 units, this may make it a bit easier.
What will the per set cost be and will the corners have a relief chamfer?

Thanks
