View Full Version : Extra strong K frame?

Now what?!

I am looking for input to reinforce or build a very strong K frame for a 88 G body, the factory uints are fragile and have no chance of holding up. This part will be used OFF road for Rally-X.

Thanks B

Don't think the factory parts are alllll that fragile until corrosion rears it's ugly head, but double plating 'em around the mounts wouldn't go amiss I guess. Start with southern parts though.... or swap on 2nd/3rd gen K frame and A arms.

Edit: This discussion would be of interest also and relate to my last comment. http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/showthread.php?68182-Dual-Pivot-K-Frame-on-87-CSX

EditII: Oh there was some discussion years ago, and maybe on a different site, about foam filling them to rigidise them, don't know what came of that.

A welded up stocker is pretty damn tough, just make all the welds continuous and upgrading to the later dual pivot style would be worthwhile too.

The above link is a good one plus another member makes matching control arms.

Thanks for the links RW, I have known about Brian's sub-frame for some time but I am not sure it is what I need, I will have to talk to him about this. As for the factory sub-frame I have broken about eight of them racing on tarmac over the last 12 years or so, they are weak. Back then a quick trip the pick and pull was easy as I had my pick of cars, now I "might" see one T-D :( in the yard.

Not much to see, most cracked around the body mount lugs :( I tried using fish plates that only made them crack somewhere else. I did fix a few over the years but the metal would just break some where else. I think I have one sitting out back of the shop, I will post pics if I do.
