How much do plane Jane 14" steel wheels weigh? What about the 14" aluminum steel pattern ones?

IIRC, and i might not, i think i weighed the typical 14x5.5 steel wheel at around 19 lbs.

Ive never in my years of junkyarding actually spotted (which i guess is synonymous with noticed) a set of those aluminum steelies. :p

I know for sure they're out there in some amount still. I saw one or two sets come through the tire shop in my time. There's no mistaking them when you pick one up. It was unreal how light they were.

If the steel jobs are 19lbs I may go with a 15 or 16" wheel.

All the factory 15x6 aluminum TM wheels i weighed were 19 too.. But you get a little more wheel for the weight. I have some 17x8 that weigh ~17. Factory builds aluminum wheels to be nearly invincible so they're generally heavy for the size.

To be honest I'm surprised that the steel wheels are 19lbs. They always seemed lighter than the 15" Al wheels when I was in the shop. That could be a function of how they swing due to the larger size though. I know that centurions are about 23lbs. I weighed a set this summer and they were super heavy. Perhaps a set of polished pizzas would do OK.

In the end it won't really be my call since Joy is the one who will choose.

That's what I'm hoping for. This new Lebaron doesn't look like it'll get the mileage that our 5 speed cars get.

5-speed swap!

I've done that to the one in the garage. Apparently this one's nicer interior trumps exterior condition and mechanical soundness.

The ones that came on my van 5x100 were 50lb with a 205/70R14 on, which made 21565R15s on pumpers 5lb a corner lighter at $45lb... and I doubt the tire was lighter, I've heard around 30lb each for them. There's a difference between factory steels and cheapy winter steels though, it's like almost 1/8 steel vs 16thish.

In 4x100, Escort LX 14" 7 spoke alloys are 17lb and BMW "bottlecap" 14" alloys are 14-15lb... (seen a weighed range of 14.1 to 14.8 or so, so figure on either variation in production run, or peoples scales not agreeing)

I has a set of 16" winter steels with 195/50s on them which I may weigh when I dig them out in a month or so. Also have a stray "aluminum steel" which I think was original to an uptrim spirit.

Im not sure what they weigh, but the stock 1gen neon 14" aluminum wheels are pretty light for a factory wheel. A little google says they are 15-16lbs but I am not sure how accurate that is. Should be pretty easy to find too.

Those caravan steelies ARE super heavy for the size.

They look the same as what the other bodies got. Guess they just used thicker stuff.
