Slasky and I are helping the students swap the auto trans out on the school Rampage in favor of a 543. I have an 8 bolt flywheel laying around....which works with our engine but the pressure plate wont bolt up. However the pressure plate will bolt up to a 6 bolt flywheel we have laying around. I ordered the pressure plate (from parts store....yes, I know its going to blow up) for an 89 Dodge Daytona 2.2 turbo. As far as I ever knew, there were only two styles of flywheels....earlier 6 bolt non common and the later 8 bolt common block. An 89 Daytona should be common block. So I am thinkin the parts store simply listed the part incorrectly. But I am also thinking there is a possibility that the flywheel I have is an oddball??? Maybe an 88? Did the 88 have an 8 bolt crank flange? If so, was the pressure plate pattern different? Any ideas on what we might be dealing with here?

Per Gary's site-

All turbo engines use a 230 mm clutch, as do all caravans (that I have ever seen) 2.2 carb and TBI use the smaller 215 mm clutch. There are 5 basic flywheels in the 2.2/2.5 family;

1. 82-85 6 bolt crank, small 215 mm pressure plate pattern.
2. 84-84 6 bolt crank, large 230 mm pressure plate pattern.
3. 86-94 8 bolt crank, small 215 mm pressure plate pattern.
4. 86-93 8 bolt crank, large 230 mm pressure plate pattern.
5. 91-93 16 valve 8-bolt/230 mm p.p. with crank trigger slots.

Now a *great* upgrade for a carb or TBI car is to install the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate from a turbo vehicle. It's a direct swap in and the clutch will last just about forever.

Clutches are a hotly debate topic, quite frankly if your using a stock clutch its very good. However sooner or later you will have to replace one.

Thanks Simon. Im thinking we must have an 86-94 8 bolt crank, small 215 mm pressure plate pattern. Aaargh. Well, I guess I gotta post in the wanted to buy section.

Really freaky. I was just about to post this thread tonight.

I have an '83 carb engine and I want to use a 523 trans, and I'd prefer to use a turbo clutch. So I guess what I want to find is an '84-'85 turbo flywheel, correct?

Looks as long as the 83 has a 6 bolt crank flange pattern, that should work.
