Hey gang, I've sent my Mitsu to TU for a rebuild - I should be able to run the truck (89 Daytona 2.5 Turbo in a Dakota) minus the turbo right?

I've built a pipe that bolts in where the turbo was so the exh manifold will be connected to the rest of the exhaust, I tied the coolant lines together, blocked the oil return at the block and I'm capping the oil supply line. Air filter has been relocated to the Intercooler inlet.

I should be good to go right? Maybe have to bump the initial timing up a degree or 4?

That way I can get to work while the turbo's shipping and whatnot.

or is this a horrible idea that will wreck my engine?

Shouldn't wreck the engine. Just have no balls for a little while lol. You could bump the timing if you wanted. Since it's all vacuum according to the computer.

Thanks roach, that's what I figgered but it's always nice to be reaffirmed!

Yeah, you can do that, it will be a dog but you won't do any damage. Just don't go WOT, it will think the turbo is there and go mega pig rich.

Had a friend drive his 5 speed turbo Mini around for years with a blown turbo, got wicked MPG and it scooted along pretty well.

It still might ot run Matchbox!

Really? I'd have thunk you'd need about 4 fat buddies and a plug wire pulled off for it to compare. (figuring 1000lb heavier and MB having 110HP HO motor, vs low compression N/A 2.5 = about 90 horsies)

Well 30 miles on it without the turbo:
1. way louder (3" downpipe to dual 2.5" glasspacks)
2. no chance of twisting an axle shaft on the 7.5" rear end.
3. EGT is more stable (staying around 1150 rather than the 1000-1450 swing under boost)

I'm debating bumping the timing up a few degrees - I can't remember how the truck ran back when it was the stock TBI 2.5 (it only had 100 horses with 132 ft/lbs) WOT won't be an issue as the resonance is to darn loud!

I'm going to pickup a FlowMaster Hushpower II muffler to replace the 3" catalytic converter - it looks just like a cat so I should pass the emission's visual inspection, it should tone down the harsh buzz of the exhaust too.

Unless Flowmaster changed their line, they don't offer a 3" Hushpower.

Nope - the hushpower would neck my downpipe from 3" to 2.5" right before the dual 2.5 Y splitter. I didn't think that restriction would hurt a daily driver too much. To go 3" I'd go with the 7" round magnaflow, half the price but I'd have to put the Cat back on for the visual emission inspection.
