What rear axle would have the smallest rear torsion bar in it and still bolt into an '89 Daytona? What size would it be?

Probably a base Aries... or you can cut yours out?

Cut yours out then box it in with holey plate.

Is it safe to just cut it out completely? I would think you'd need something in there. But, if it's OK, then that's a lot of weight, too...

How much street driving does the car see?

should be able to just cut it out, though a 89 Shadow would probably be your best bet.

Pretty sure dedicated race car, so hardest cornering forces are down the return road? ;)

That's what I was thinking, but I'd much rather ask than assume.

If that's the case, cut it out. No different than removing a swaybar.

What's the plan, thought you were underweight/weight penalised now, are you moving classes? ... or you want all your weight in lead slugs over the front wheels? :D

Changing classes. Going to AF/S. Looking for more weight reduction, plus I want to free up the suspension as much as possible...

Ah-Ha!

I knew someone had already measured the weight difference.

13lbs sounds like a no-brainer to me. I bet I can shave another 2lbs off of one of those axles before I put it in...

Is the bar only welded on the outside edges? If so, I may just cut it out and put a thin-wall tube in there. I can probably save more than 13lbs doing that.

A 1-1/8" solid bar 48" long weighs ~13.5lbs (1-1/8" solid bar @ 48" long); a 1-1/8" x 1/8" wall tube weighs 5.3lbs; 8.2 lbs lighter

1 1/8" Titanium tube is only $3.00 an inch :D

(and is really springy, it might actually work)

(Whoa, I could get enough thinwall grade 2 for a straight pipe 2.25 exhaust for only $500 :D )

Yeah, but it's really hard to weld it to steel :P
