Hey all, I am wondering this: If I adjust the Fidanza cam gear so the the nut is all the way to the left side of the slot, is this advancing or retarding the cam? (Forget that the cam will probably never be all the way to one side of the slot or the other. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure thats retarded because when I did that the torque curve was moved to the lower rpm's

Jeff,
Adavancing the camshaft would be turning CW (same as engine rotation), retarding would be going CCW or towards the firewall on our applications.

You should do the same.

Thanks guys, that was really helpful. I love the idea of marking the gear plus or minus. What I am up to is trying to get rid of some detonation. I am doing this by changing the ignition timing or the cam timing. I have a chip from Robb set up for 20 psi/56psi/52lbs. Right now I have to run about ten degree's to have no det throughout the rpm range. My knock sensor is new,; what I see the CEL after 10 psi. Which will be more helpful, advancing or retarding. Beyond that is there any reason I couldn't reduce timing at idle to 6/8/ or 10 degree's advance, I am presently @ 12 deg adv. My fuel air is at 11:1 or lower at wot. Is there any way to prove that det is happening?

Knock sensors are very sensitive, is it a dodge or aftermarket sensor?

Some people have said they use teflon tape on the threads to knock back the sensitity on the sensor vs a paste thread sealant.

Hmmmmm, I used nothing on my knock sensor, screwed it in. Mine is after market. Autozone.
