OK, I know this is a cheap skate question. but I have a little money hanging on this. SO, can a guy pull his pistons, re gap his rings, hone the block and re install the old rings on the old pistons? be easy with this guys! I got money hanging on this. I have never done it but I have heard of guys doing it and it working good. I have never heard of a motor being lost by doing it ether. so I haven't heard any thing bad about it but it gives me the willies thinking about doing it!!

You can't hone and reuse the same rings, they won't seat and/or you'll have massive blowby and oil issues. If the engine is fine and not burning oil etc, then simply reuse the rings and put back in the same bore, you'll be fine.

so your saying you can reuse the old rings as long as you don't hone the bores?

Get an exhaust tubing expander that works for diesel trucks, and stretch them a bit :D

Ya know if it was 10 years after the apocalypse and my wood gas convertor was wearing the bores quick due to having poor lubricity and some acidity, then there's 3 or 4 methods I can think of that might let me re-use the rings, but... I ain'tn't saying, it'll give people ideas.
