I am working on upgrading my 86 wagon to 3 bar map and have a socketed 87 LM but I need to change the pin outs in the connectors to use it.
How hard is it to move all the pins around and are there any good instructions on which pin to move to which location.

It is super easy. I can't find the link on here for the life of me, but it's out there. you can also look for the differences in the pinouts on the minimopar site.

Power loss light moved from Blue 4 to Red 4
VSS move Blue 14 to Red 9
Add new AIS wire to Red 16
Add new AIS wire to Red 22
Add Map power to Red 1
Add Map Signal to Blue 19
Map ground. Tap into underhood maybe charge temp sensor. (black with light blue tracer) This will eventually tie into Red 25.

Curious to know what the reason for "upgrading" from 86 to 87... As far as I know the only real difference is the external MAP, which the 86 can be converted too with less effort... Just wondering if there is something I'm missing.

Mike all the 3 bar cals from vendors seem to be based on 87 LM's. Also the 87 5 spd TII MP stage II LM's are more aggressive due to them having a555 behind them instead of a525. And as you stated it sets you up for running GM 3 bar external map. I remember a long time ago when I switched wiring from 86 Stage II to 87 CSX/SL/Shelby Z MP stage II LM the performance gain was quite a bit.

The 86 LM has to chips in it and the 87 has one, there is alot more cals for the 87 vs 86.

Exactly right, in order to get a three bar cal from Boost Button I have to upgrade to an 87 LM. I have no real cal options with the 86 LM.

Not (necessarily) true anymore...

You came close to stealing the words out of my mouth. I was going to post that it's not entirely true any longer. I'm really happy that the 86 stuff is being serviced now. I would have probably stayed on GLHS electronics if your current stuff was around way back when.

Rob.
Has this changed recently then? I have no desire to make work if I can get a 3 bar cal for my GLHS LM. I will get a hold of you to see what can be done.

I was under the impression that the log T1 only used the one chip, but the GLHS needed both to contain the cal. So... it would seem like you could do an 87 cal on an 86 computer... But I guess you would still have to move a few wires around to match the outputs on the 87...

I've got a 86 log car I'll want to cal sometime soon, and I'm going to want to keep it suck through... Guess I'm going to have to figure out some stuff!

Not all of the 86' boards have the hardware to run an 87' TII cal. Some of them do though. From what I understand it can be added in.

The GLHS cal is not the same as the '87 T2. It's basically the same cal data, but the software is slightly different. You can't just run a '87 T2 cal on a L-Body LM, evena GLHS.

If I had to do it again I wouldn't pull the pins out. I would cut and splice wires. Only move if necessary. I had connection problems because of pulling pins out.

New pins are still available from terminal supply co. I would rather install a new pin vs. cutting and splicing or soldering.

Call them for all of your terminal needs. They have pretty much everything for our cars except a few of the more proprietary things like the PM plugs and HEP connectors. Even then you can modify the PM deals to use standard Molex connectors if you absolutely have to.
