Hey everyone! I found a Lebaron in fantastic shape, with a ton of new parts, for pretty cheap. The only issue is that the carb is showing lean burn, and it's a new carb. The owner bought it from American Carb, it's remanned. I can get it for cheap, it won't be a daily driver, I just want to know how difficult this lean burn is to fix.

Thanks!

So a lebaron with a 5.2 with a carb?like a 78?

Didn't know 2.5's came with Lean burn?

If its a V8, most threw it away, crap system and ran a regular carb and distributor.

I'm thinking this might be an old 2.5L maybe 85-88 lebaron with a swapped on feedback carb?

If I'm right, there's nothing to fix. The system works pretty well and it did increase mpgs. If you want to tune it to run richer, then you'll need the model number of the carb and see what's available for it as far as jets, metering rods, or whatever the model carb uses.

The current owner said that it runs really rough and occasionally won't start. He had a couple diagnostic sheets from some repair shops around town that showed "lean burn". He started the car and it ran great, for the five minutes I was there. He said that it needed put on a scope. I don't know anything about carbs, so I don't want to pick this up if it's going to be a mess to deal with. I did go back and look under it, floors are clean, no rust in the wheel well/floorboards/quarter panels/anywhere.

Honestly never heard of a 86+ carb'd 2.5, they were all TBI. Maybe he's thinking of something else? Either way, if it was a carb it would be a feedback Holley, so that's easy to ditch.

I know it's carb'd, I'm still unsure about the year. The person who owns it is very mechanically inclined, he fully restored and rebuilt a 77 Fairlady 280z (rebuilt motor/tranmission in his garage, this thing is PERFECT) but he said that this stumped him. I'm looking for a car for my girlfriend that gets better than 13 mpg to drive back and forth during the summer and user her AWD Bravada for the winter. I'll stop back by and see what year it is. The vehicle is red with a half/quarter top white cloth top, that has no tears. This thing was well taken care of.

Is it a huge car or a midsize/k car size car? If it's huge then its a M-body (diplomat, gran fury, 5th ave.) made from the late 70s into the mid 80s with a 318 and good luck getting 13 mpg. If it is k car size then its a k lebaron probably an 84/85 with a 2.2 and carb, unless the engine was swapped out for a 2.5.

It's a k-car with a 2.2 or 2.5. I don't know the difference just from looking at it, to be honest. He said it was 2.5, but he may be wrong. It's stock with carb, I'm assuming it's 84-85.

Ahhh... this is my territory now. Send me some pictures of the thing and find out the year. I can help you get that into running shape. If it's a LEBARON with a carb, it's 82-83 as the 2.2L in the 84 up models was throttle body injected as standard and 2.6L carb'ed Mitsubishi quality as an option (or turbo, but you'd know if it was boosted).

If you get the VIN off the car you can identify year, engine and fuel system type in the car.

It's 1982 with a 2.2. So the guy who owns the car (or rather his wife) has no idea what size motor was in it.

This is a candidate for a nice turbo motor swap. Just a nice stock T1 or T2.

It would be a nice candidate for a T1 swap, but I don't have any time to do that.

With new brakes, master cylinder, thermostat, radiator, tires, shocks, spark plugs, cap/rotor, carb, what do you think is a good price for this car? The tires have less than 1,000 miles on them.

Honestly, in good running condition those early (81-82) K cars are a bit scary to drive. 84 horsepower at the crank is no fun if you're going to be doing any highway driving.

I'm passing on the vehicle. If any ones interested I can get the number for people. The owner said $500 firm, receipts for everything that's been done.

God I wish I wasn't poor and the car was close. I don't have an early LeBaron like that.

I'll store it until you can come get it!

That would be awesome and I really appreciate it but that still doesn't change the fact that I'm poor as hell haha. Oh, did it have buckets and console or bench inside?

skitzo_inc

It had a bench seat, red interior. I saw no stains, no rips, headliner wasn't even falling down.

I have an 82 lebaron with the 2.6 that is just fine to drive, even on the highway. But, a 2.2 auto would be even more gutless.

having said that, i would buy that car so fast, heads would spin.

I drove past it last night and it's still there, you can buy it!

Well i wouldnt buy it for $1000+ which is what it would cost me due to distance. Cool car though.
