Once you socket a LM, does it really matter what year it was/is for? I was under the impression they were all pretty much the same hardware (turbo version anyway), with the software making the difference on the dizzy, etc...

As i understand it some of the old ones have multiple small chips instead of one.

The GLHS ones need to be double socketed, but I was of the understanding that all the others programs would fit on one chip...

partially correct - GLHS only requires both chips to be replaced for a complete and total recalibration. there's enough on just the upper chip to get the majority of the important tables modified. I ran this way on my 1st gen G-body for several years, and was more than happy with the driveability. always several ways to skin a cat, but you don't have to do both to get a good cal going. you can still find a couple of references to this around here.

they do not all have the same components. early LM's (other than GLHS) don't have 4-wire AIS control, among other things. simpler to say they are not all the same, and from experience can not all run the same .bin's.

85-86 T1 may interchange w/ socketing, but the '87 is by itself. Not sure if a 85-86 T1 LM can be used as a GLHS computer after socketing or not.
