I finally found a donor car with turbo II motor and A555 trans. My plans where to use the motor and trans to build my 86 shelby charger. Now the problem is the following, the donor car happens to be a 1989 Shelby Daytona, and although I paid very little for the car because it wouldn't start, the car really doesn't look bad at all. I mean the body is rust free, the interior is in fair shape, and the motor, turbo and trans sound great. I need some input guys, what would you guys do. My charger is also rust free, and the motor and trans are working fine, I can just tell you that it looks awsome with the pumper wheels. anyhow what do you guys think?

86 to 89 is a big change and quite easy to convert over to its more over less better because you get better technology and roller cames and all that good stuff from the 89. only pain is wireharness .good luck with that...its gonna take some fiddiling with
But in my opinion its a smart move trust youll notice the differents

The daytona feels alot heavier than the charger, it feels like a tiger tank, but in a good way. The car is now running in limp mode because it is missing the wastegate solenoid pack and it only gives about 6psi of boost, but I can imagine what this car would do with 12 pounds or so. Anyhow, I had to route new vacuum lines because there wasn't any, no wonder it wouldn't run.

Everybody knows that G-bodies are parts cars for L-bodies. :)

Dude, as cruel as that sounds, I kind of agree with you. It's just that some people have a soft spot in their hearts. I mean why else would I have stock to my rust bucket 1984 Dodge 600ES turbo sedan for so many years, even installing a top mounted intercooler with 33gph injectors among other things. But what you said is kind of a reality check, I mean I have visualized this project for a couple of years now, and I just don't know why I'm skipping on my tracks. Anyhow, thanks for you input.

Make the Daytona run good and sell it for $1500.

Then, use the $$$ to buy yourself a A555 and TII motor and have $$$ left over.

I agree, it's a win win situation, that may involve a little work. But then again, I love Daytonas too.

Oh man!!!! You L-body guys. ;) Good rust free Daytona's are getting harder to find all the time. I would keep the Daytona as a DD/cruiser and lean harder on the Charger.:thumb:

Yes, the Daytona is heavier by about 1000lbs, give or take. So by the numbers, a Charger making the same power as a Daytona would be roughly a second faster in the quarter. That's why I decided to take the TII engine I was saving for my '90 and put it my Charger, and then build something a bit meaner for the '90. But that's not to say you should part it out. In the last year I've seen 5 '89-'91 Daytona Shelbys in the yards that were beyond help, two blues, a black, a red, and a white. They're not getting any easier to find. I like the idea of getting it running and selling it, and using the money to build a nice engine for the Charger. OR swap it over, and build a nicer one for the Daytona.

What color is the Daytona anyway?

Yeah, performance wise the charger could run circles around the Daytona, but the Daytona is a really elegant car, and in all honesty it doesn't make any sense to part out such a beautifull car if it can be restored. If anything I will sell the car, but I just don't have the guts to desintegrate it.

Damn the last one I saw that nice the guy wanted 2500 for it firm. I just saw a 90 in local yard here that is rust free. It makes me sick, but one way or another the shell is going to be donated to my soon to begin rusted to he!! 89 tona project.

I've been playing around with the car a bit. Got a new alternator, new windshield, changed the oil, monday I'll take it to the muffler shop, maybe put a nice 2.5 inch system in it. I've been driving it a bit, it really needed to be driven. This car rocks dude, and it gets notice alot too. It still needs work, specially in the electrical department, but it's worth the effort. Anyhow, thanks for the complements.

i agree on the G body as donor vehicel theory. i have 2 shelby rear axles, one of which is going on my k wagon along with a matching 1-1/4 front sway bar!
