Thanks to all who made SDAC 22 a great time for all of us. Special thanks to the Hoosier guys for all of their help in getting to the event. If it weren't for Wes I would have never made it!

The real subject to this thread is the ride home for myself and Jon. It was quite the experience. Tornado like conditions, a torrential rain, some repairs, and then total immobility. We made the best of it though.

As we were getting closer to Indy we ran into some of the craziest weather I've ever encountered. The temp was going from the 90's to the 70's every 20 seconds or so as we were on the leading edge of a very strong line of storms. As we approached a tree line it looked like they were getting ready to blow over, and when everything opened up dust and debris were in the air as far as you could see. We put the pedal down to outrun the storm and what looked like a potential tornado.

In the above pics you can see some of the grass which was blown onto the antenna during our drive. I wish we could have taken more pics along the way, but Joy was cowering in fear and I didn't want to drive while taking pics at this point.

The rain was torrential and difficult to drive through. At one point we had to slow down because the roof of a warehouse was ripped off and tossed across the freeway.

After making some running repairs on Jon's car we headed back out, but my alternator crapped out stranding us. While we gave it a valiant effort on the side of the road to change it, the spare had a broken field terminal wire thus putting us out for the count.

A tow home was necessary. We decided to make the best of it by having a micro SDAC on the side of the freeway. We invited the State Police and the Courtesy Patrol to stop by. The tow truck driver decided to lead the caravan back to Tuscola.

I snapped some pics of Jon's car the next day to show how much grass he picked up in some spots. It was throughout both of our cars and everywhere under our hoods.

Eh...That sucks!! Im glad you all made it home safely though.

Your bad luck spread onto me a teeny tiny bit. The mighty grand am, in all of its ego boosting power decided to blow the rear brakeline on the way home haha.

No worries at all George. I'm actually happy that we ended up towing it home rather than finishing off the repair on the side of the road. When I put the denso unit in on Saturday we had to make many little modifications due to the bolt size difference between the old and new units. It would have been an absolute nightmare on the side of the road.

Wow! That's some crazy stuff Glad you all made it home safely; even if it took some time! Looks like you made the most of it, tho!

Meh, it was just a rear line with an amazing handbrake. Could still stop as quick as I wanted :D

Thanks JT. We really did have a great time over all at 22 despite the Daytona hating us. I think it's a testament to the great individuals in the club.

Ohio sucks. It was all construction and people drive like idiots. Also, thats where my brakeline went out. I drove 400 miles without it. Nbd hehe

Unfortunately there were to libations or tire smoke. It was still a great time just pretending that we were still out in the lot.

anytime man I just wish I was closer to you guys when it broke down. I went through the same storm on the way home and it was everything that you described. I was about to pass a semi on I-70 when a big gust of wind lifted the whole left side off the ground! I just about sh!t my self. When I reached my exit I seen an ambulance and police cars going the other way. Not sure if the semi made it or not.

That is nuts! I can't imagine that at all. Jon said his car got really light at one point and he was a bit concerned, but the Daytona just kept going. I'll say that we do get 60mph gusts around here every year and I'm often times out on those days so I'm more used to driving in those conditions than many are. Glad you made it through OK.

You -------. haha I had to shave, it was bothering me. The walk for wieners was over, so no need to raise any more money for them and no reason to not be clean shaven. Man that storm was bad though, like crazy bad. I seriously thought my hood was going to fly up and get ripped off the car. I was just going to keep going if it did. We were booking it to get to a point where it seemed safe and free of debris, but that point wasn't until we got to where the car broke down. Amazingly, the Daytona lasted long enough to get us to the interstate where it was clear skies.

It just needed to take a break. It stopped in an agreeable spot for sure.

The quality I admire most in the SDAC gang is the ability to make lemonade at a moment's notice. Probably because we have so dang much practice doing it....
