I just realized the insurance company is paying for a good used hood, trunk and roof on my 2101 Sebring because they are aluminum? Aluminum stretches when dented and won't take PDR. Paintless Dent Repair.

Nah, 2101 Sebrings are titanium composite with a Mr Fusion, and optional consumer grade chobham sheathed kevlar armor panels, because in 2101 war was beginning...

I wouldn't be surprised if they are coming out with one for the '10.

You can repair alum panels with PDR its just alot more work, you have to push so hard is amazing, if you pushed that hard on normal steel you'd be screwed.

Interesting. They are paying for installing good used hood, roof, and trunk and repainting.

I'm surprised that most vehicles don't have aluminum panels. Heck, they used aluminum hoods and trunk lids on GMs back in the late 70s even!

My sons 06 Mustang has an aluminum hood, and It like many other Mustang hoods is starting to bubble and oxidize on the front lip of the hood. I guess it did not get preped right at the factory.

Ford has to be one of the absolute worst for not sealing hem flanges. brand new 2011 taurus we had last year, it was already showing rust staining on all 4 door bottoms.

My grandmother's neighbor apparently had an aluminum bodied car way back when. I forget the make, but they apparently made just a hand full of them. The guy up and decided to become a farmer with no knowledge of how it was to be done. If it weren't for that car being able to pull a plow they would have starved. I hear it sank into the ground over the decades out at his place. Pretty good chunk of Al for the scrap yard would be all that's left I guess.

Maybe a Range Rover or Land Rover? They were aluminum bodied, steel frame though. They made more than a handful, but not a whole lot were imported here back then. The Land Rover was actually designed to pull agricultural implements in it's original incarnation, the Range Rover was the plush version of it, but could have done the same.

No, this was an American made car from the big three IIRC. I have no idea how he came into such a rare car and then ended up using it for that purpose. It was apparently quite the sight, as everyone said they would have starved if my great grandfather hadn't told them most of what they were doing wrong. You've got to respect someone that goes all in though.
