Its just come to my attention that some of you are reusing the rubber piece that goes between the pump and the sending unit, known as a pulsator-Please, DO NOT reuse it, simply run the hose from the pump to the sending unit-these fail and cause all kinds of fuel pressure issues.

Please sticky this!!!!!!!!!!

is this a van only thing? the sending unit is for the gauge right?

Nope, all model thing, GM used them too. When they first starting using intank pumps, they would pulsate and that isn't acceptable as you could hear it, so they added that device to stop it. Some of the fuel rails have it, that big round disc on the end of some does the same thing, it dampens the pulses so you can't hear them.

I don't think I have any kicking around, if someone want's to snap a pic and post it up.

Oops.. I put mine back in. Is it worth the effort of pulling the tank just for that? What's happens when it fails?

You have to pull the tank on P bodies? On Daytonas and Lebarons you jack up the driver's rear and theres plenty of room to Pull/Swap without turning a bolt on the tank. I would have thought Ps would be the same

Cause's all kinds of fuel pressure issues. Local guy had fuel pressure woes, this caused it hence why I posted this.

Technically, you can do it with the tank in ANY of our cars from what I've heard. I don't know how true it is.

Fuel pump access on Lbody is on the passenger side, on the bottom of the tank.

P-body and G-body can be done under the car, easily.

Sorry to thread jack but, Could this be whats causing an '89 Daytona CS not to start? The PO put a Walbro 255 LPH pump on it and said it started but when he gave it gas it just puttered out?

All cars you can leave the tank in, vans it has to come out.

It could be but the supplied intank hose is also poor quality.

Lol when i had my mini i lost fuel pressure dropped the tank and that little booger was slipped right off. Only made sense to put in a walbro anyway while it was apart lol. I left the stupid diaphram out of the loop too. I posted about thus quite some time back.

Check fuel pressure yet?

30R10 is the correct hose to use for intanke.

The submersable fuel line is available at Napa Part number H209. It is made by Gates. It is approx $20 a foot and comes in 1 foot pieces. Check the prices if you have more than one Napa because it varied by $10 between stores in my area. If you go on Gates website for the hose they show it being used on a caravan pump assembly. Another tip I have is buy good USA made clamps. I have had good luck with Ideal clamps, The ones that come with many pumps are cheap clamps and they tend to strip very easily.

One thing about the Walbro pump is I had the pressure relief valve go bad on mine causing the fuel pressure to drop all of a sudden. Pressure was fine at idle and would raise to 68 PSI where it would all of a sudden flutter and drop below 50. This caused a lean missfire / backfire. I verified this by putting the pump in a bucket of water.

I would want to be sure I used stainless clamps inside the tank, because of ethanol content.

I'm putting in a 255 walbro, and a FWDp fuel rail, so I wont have a dampener anymore. Will removing this make my fuel pump obnoxiously loud? Not that its a big deal the exhaust is going to be louder but I'm just curious.
