I have a 90 lebaron 2.5 turbo that loses oil pressure after about 5 miles. We have done a lot to this motor including a bigger turbo and punching it out to 40 over. We just put the motor back together and removed the balance shafts and put a new oil pick up. They told me at the speed shop we use that we have an oil leak eather oil pan gasket or rear main. Any suggestions?

When you took the balance shafts out, how did you block the oil feed hole that use dto send oil to the BS assembly?

I don't know because the guys that punched it 40 over did that work.

Is there some where that I can see a pic of what holes should be pluged? I am gonig to drop the oil pan and try another gasket so I could check the balance shafk plugs then.

Oil pressure is created by the bearing (main, rod, cam etc) clearances of the internal engine components. If the bearings are way loose or worn, you get low oil pressure. From your comments in this thread and the other one, this engine sounds like it was just rebuilt, so hopefully everything was put together within tolerance. If not, then that *may* be a cause of low oil presure. If it wasm, then its gotta be something else BIG causing the pressure to escape... such as the oil passage that went to the balance shafts. I know this from personal experience as I forgot to block one once and it lost oil pressure almost immediately after startup... could be a good place to look first.

Also, a typical "oil leak" will actually be more of a result of high oil pressure instead of low...

Easy to find... there are BS mounting holes front and back (vehicle perspective) of each main cap. The oil galley that supplies the BS assembly is just in front of the #1 Main Cap next to that BS mounting hole

I have also experienced this issue on a new 2.5 build. Turned out the oil pump relief valve was bad. The thing had decent cold pressure, but steadily dropped.

are you going by stock gage or have you measure it with a gage.

I thought we told you in another thread to hook up a real gauge? If you haven't, your simply guessing and wasting time and money.

I will pull the oil pan off and check rod bearing clearance and also check to see if the holes are plugged.

Yeah, check the BS hole for sure, BadFastGTC hasa great point, could be the oil pump too. Looked thrut he archives and found a pic showing where the BS oil hole is:

Ick I hate hearing about stuff like this "Paid buddy to do X to my car, now car has mysterious problems that buddy says weren't nothing to do with him..."

Cool down Simon, he's not paying for your time.

I am cool, just confused why someone would spend time and money to guess at problems. To each their own, :eyebrows:

Before you go any further put a mechanical guage on i have seen sending units go to zero as they leak intenaly and stop reading after 5-10 mins

Do you guys have an easy way to put the 4 piece oil pan gaskets on?

One piece gasket comes with 4 plastic tools to install it.

This post sounds promising, did you find the cause of the low-oil pressure?
