this is my 1st post. i just bought this car for $500 from a local dealer. 96k, red with gray lower panels. 2.2l turbo intercooled 5 sp. 16 in cs 'directional' wheels. im a mopar guy from birth. but didn't care much for the fwd mopars till last tues (bought the car).

so heres my question. my fender tag is missing, so i couldnt get the option codes. but i read that the 2.5l TI non intercooled for 89 is the perf package, and the 2.2l intercooled T2 is the comp package and has the a555 tranny. and that they made 269 of them. just wondering if this was true or not cus getting this rare --- car for $500is quite unbelievable. i knew is was rare but damn didnt think is was that rare.

thanks for the info and i LOVE the forums. looking forward to getting to know all of you guys!! :bump2:

yea is in great shape. paint sux, but inside is beautiful. also some wiring needs to be straightened up and cyl 3 has bad compression but runs smooth as glass.

so what about my question? anybody? perf or comp???

I'll see if I can dig thru my old SDAC "Up Front" newsletters... there was a complete '86-'91 CS history and breakdown in one of them! :thumb:

"....red with gray lower panels........."

the 1989 CS Daytonas did not come with "titanuim lower body sills" like the Shelby Daytona in 1989 so thats my 1st thought that you might have a Shelby not a CS.

CS Comp Pak would be distinquished by: 2.2L TII w/ Getrag A-555, 15x7 crab wheels (not unidirectional like Shelby Daytona), no a/c, cloth interior, no power windows or seats, no lower body spoilers, "cs" badge on each fender, power-buldge hood with "intercooled turbo" decal, code AGS on tag.

.......i'm guessing you might have a Shelby Daytona based on the engine, grey lower panels, and unidirectional wheels....either way nice score for a TII daytona.

Like Marcus said, your description sounds like an 89 Daytona Shelby, still a great car, just not as rare.

Here is some info on the Daytona Shelbys:

And on the CS Daytonas:

I wrote the C/S history for the Up Front article :-)

If the car is an 89 then the following will apply:

8th Digit of VIN
A - 2.2 T2
J - 2.5 T1

10th digit of VIN should be K for 1989.

If you had the data plate on the rad support the easy way to tell would be to look for the AGB code (performance package) or the AGS code (competition package).

I missed the part about the gray lower body panels. That sounds like an 89 Daytona Shelby. A true C/S AGS car will have NO power accessories and no ground effects. The locks and even mirrors will be manual, and it shouldn't have AC (though I've seen a few like mine with dealer added AC).

anywhos. heres my vin: 1B3XG74AXKG112256

it may not be rare but you still dont see them everyday.

not as rare, but nicer if you like any creature comforts :thumb:

Creature comforts = more weight and more stuff to break :-) That's why I like the AGS package cars, they're all about going fast and nothing else.

4,741 Daytona Shelbys were built in 89.

Please dont refer to 'light weight' and 'Daytona' together... the lightest Daytona ever made is still what, lik 500lbs heavier than the heaviest Omni?

so does my shelby daytona have the biggest brakes, swaybars, etc.? i know for a heavy car, its not practical for autox, but i need an autox car. ive been going thru with-draws since my bmw "total-loss" accident. but i want a comfortible daily booster also.

so where i'm getting at is: is the difference between the cs model and the shelby only the ac delete, power everything, badging, bodywork, and rarity?? do they both have the same suspension, brakes, performance stuff??

thanks yall

One of the locals auto crosses his daytona. They can be built to have incredible handling over stock, which is good to begin with. What do the centrecaps of the wheels say?

cs daytona

the hubcaps say 'cs', and theyre the unidirectional type. they are the 16" wheels with 205/55-16s. very, very nice looking!!

Daytona Shelby. Not Shelby Daytona.

Daytona Shelby. Not Shelby Daytona.

right i am always goofing that one up.

CSDAYTONA your car, if its a Daytona Shelby has the Maximum Performance Brakes and the Maximum Performance Suspension, same parts as you'd get with the CS Competition Package w/ the base daytona....and you are correct the basic mechanical hardware on the two type of daytonas are the same, the differences are indeed in the appearance parts and the power options...the CS Comp did get bigger wheels and tires than the Daytona Shelby as i remember.

a CS Comp isnt light, but it is definately on a diet compared to the Daytona Shelby...and the both of those '89 TII versions, IMO, represent the pinnacle in 8-valve daytonas so you got a good one.

I never said the Daytonas were lightweight. I just said more options = more weight = less speed :-)

The C/S competition package (AGS) cars were supposedly 200lb lighter than a stock 89 Daytona Shelby.

The AGS cars for 89 also got 15 x6.5 inch crab wheels.

I've owned 3 AGS cars, two 89s and a 91.

I have a Daytona Shelby and GLH.

GLH handles so much better than the Daytona Shelby.
