My '89 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 turbo didn't start after getting done with work. The starter relay clicks but no start. Am I correct that it is not the hep if the relay clicks ? Any way to determine it is the starter ? Battery is only two years old and checked out okay voltage wise on a meter. Any suggestions ?
My other car a '03 Neon also left me stranded in the same week but I fixed that, it was the fuel pump.

Get underneath, check for power at the large wire, should be there all the time, now have a friend try to start it and check for power at the little wire, if yes, starter went. You can try tapping it or the solenoid with a hammer while buddy holds the key on as well, this can get you moving again.

Okay, took starter to auto parts store and it tested good. Went underneath car and tested large wire and it had 12.4 volts. Had wife turn keyswitch on and hold in start position, the other wire was 12.4 volts. Now what could it be ?

Wierd.. if you have 12V to the red wire and to the solenoid (other smaller) wire then not sure how the starter could have tested good?

Does the starter try to spin at all or just hear the solenoid clicking?

+1 All part store testers do is see if the bendix kicks out and the starter spins. It doesnt put a load on it so if your starter kicks out and doesnt do anything its toast. It HAS to do something if it has power lol (unless its dead of course)

sounds like a new starter is in order. I always jump the starter relay and if it doesn't attempt to start I install a new one.

Yep, it was the starter ! Bad solenoid and no grease in starter.:amen: It was the original starter from '89. Took it to a rebuilder and $40. and 45 minutes later it was done.
