After doing a quick search and didn't really find anything conclusive, what do you guys/gals do to seal up the engine? i.e. oil pan gasket, vc gasket,etc...

I've got the blue felpro for the oil pan (the 4 piece) and the same color for the VC. What about the ends? Should I run a small diam. bead of rtv on the bottom of the gasket (engine side of the gasket)

I'm a noob when it comes to engine building, so anything else to add would be appreciated:)

If your building a common block then get the felpro 1 piece pan gasket. For the VC gasket I just put it on dry and havnt had an issue.

Yeah sorry it's a 2.5 CB....

So can I get the 1 piece from the local parts store?

Thanks for the quick reply:thumb:

Autozone locally did not stock it but they ordered it and had it there next day for $38 out the door. It is absolutely worth the cost for the hassle it saves.

Oil pan # OS30612T

Valve cover gasket, I found any brand works, just use some RTV at the bottom of the cam caps.

For a 4 piece oil pan gasket I always do a skim coat of ultra black rtv across the cork parts then I pay close attention to how I RTV around the caps. 1 piece VC gasket ftw. No rtv, you're just wasting your time and making a mess :)

RTV at the bearing caps.

Back in the day when I last dealt with cork VC gaskets on other vehicles, the method was to coat them in fresh engine oil before installation. They usually sealed well, until they got baked on brittle in a couple of years and you had to set valve lash by then anyway.
