What is a good tire in 205/55r16 these days? I would like to stick with the stock size since it keeps the RPMs low for the freeway and is about as wide as I would want to go on the stock 16" pumpers.

Last year I got a set of Dunlop SP Sport 8000s with a 200 treadwear rating in 205/55-16 for the R/T; they were on sale for about $50/tire. They're still in storage so I can't report yet. I wanna find a set of pumpers for them.

The Eagle GT comes in that size too and is supposed to be an awesome tire. If I had a car sporty enough to wear them, I would.

If you're looking for an all-season, I've got these on my Daytona and freakin' love them.

I was happy with the grip and handling on the cheapy nexens I got from walmart, but on the escort they have worn uneven and gone way out of balance... I actually got a clearance set, final sale, or I'd be back there with them. So they're not as much of a bargain as the Kumho made tires they used to stock. Kumhos made in Korea are good, made in china ones, you can guess.

Michelin is backslapping about how good it's "green X" low rolling resistance tires are... if you're looking for sporty with mpg, they do that now... I might go for http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Primacy+MXM4&partnum=055HR6MXM4P&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes
which seems to have good reviews.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think I'm going to go with the Hankook Ventus v12 evo. It's going to be hard to beat them with the current price and rebate they have going on. They are also a couple lbs lighter per tire than most other models which is kind of nice.

I'm shopping for this size also but on my daily driver. Don't know if you're looking for performance orientated tire or a high mileage all season tire. I am in the latter group as this car has zero performance aspect. Right now I am considering the General Altimax RT and Cooper CS4. My tire guy likes the coopers and I know that is what he will recommend. They will probably be cheaper than about anything else also.

Light weight is always a priority in a tire decision tree.

Light weight is always a priority in a tire decision tree.

And at 3-4lbs. lighter than the competition it was a decent amount of weight to save IMO.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've already placed my order for the hancook tires. I just couldn't pass up the rebate.

I have 2 Ecsta AST's waiting to go on the GLHS.:thumb: The Hankooks are a good tire, too.
