Fron what I understand the 005's are still being used just under a superceded number

Dodge has a stock type head gasket that is 3 times the price and its very similiar. In other threads, they say the 005 is on infinite back order IIRC.

Been NS1 for about a year. I think you can cut a 2.5 gasket to match the TIII. I could be wrong though.

I did it all the time, I'd cut out the 005 on my TIII, it was cheaper that way, :eyebrows:

005s are pretty much not coming back from what my friend at the chrysler dealer said.

I have a stock T-III HG in new condition if you really need one, Bill. It was on a rebuilt motor I bought, but never fired up. Judging the builder's technique, I believe it was under-torqued, too...

MSRP listed price in the US is $40, online discounting dealerships list it for $28. The part number is 5281065 and just from all the pictures posted here it is the same exact gasket, it just has the different p/n.

Locally, $65 my cost plus tax, I could get the 005's for $25 locally, :(

You could try calling the Mopar Techline 1-888-528-4364 and ask them if they would re-release the p/n ? Never know they might actually be able to give you an answer or find one somewhere.

I might call them today.

Bill, I know it sounds bad but modify a stock gasket, I did this for years on my TIII, took about 20 mins to open up the holes to match a TIII gasket, if your careful with a die grinder and a drill, it works great.

can anyone offer advice on drilling and grinding a 8v hg for the 16v engine?

I simply placed the head gasket on top of each other, used a marker to mark the holes, then used a drill for the smaller holes, a hole punch and die grinder for the larger holes, then when gone, you'll have to use a flat grinding disc to smooth off the work you did on the back side. MAKE SURE to keep the area clean otherwise you'll embed metal etc into the new gasket. It takes about 20 mins but it works just fine.

and comes with a 12mo 12k warranty. To some, that's at least 3 head gaskets so pretty much back to the price of a 005.
