View Full Version : Quick stupid question - verifying neutral w/ no cables attached

I swapped the 520 into the Rampage, but have yet to replace the floor pans. Want to put the car on stands and test fire the engine, to prove it's worth keeping (to myself). Any real easy way to verify neutral with no shift cables, the transmission already installed in the car? I'll add it to my personal FAQ page...

Take the pin on the top of the selector housing, turn it over and put the pin part into the hole in the housing slowly and carefully, it will only go in if the transmission is in neutral.

That pin is designed to lock the transmission into neutral for servicing.

Neutral is when the selector shaft is in the middle of both the side-to-side motion range, and the in-and-out range.

Hope this helps.
