I got a few parts on the weekend, and a couple were some T1 intakes.

as I happened to look at one while I was putting them away, I had noticed that the bumps at the injectors were very minimal, as if the intake was already ported....but it was still factory casting???

the difference was huge. I was curious as to where these intakes come from??? i did notice the one with the big bumps was an ACE CO casting, where the nicer free flowing was a non ACE CO casting.....

Probably just a newer casting. They used a vacuum forming for the sand mold. Piano plates come out totally smooth now ready for finishing instead of hours of grinding and filling.
I wonder when they will start using 3D printing for making molds?

Damn, you found one of my little NHRA stock-class secrets...

I have 2 or 3 of these now. I don't know when the 'good' casting came out vs. the 'bad'. But, every time I see a 1-pc at a swap meet or junkyard, I check it to see if it's a 'small bump' manifold - and I buy it if it is. The '05-8950' number is the supplier code, I believe. But, I don't know who that is. It could be a difference in Mexico vs. US castings. I know there are a lot more of the 'Ace Co' castings around.

Since I run stock class and can't port anything, every little bit helps. It would be interesting to see if there is an actual difference on a flow bench.

FWIW, the 'Ace Co' makes a lot of the older (and some of the not-so-older) aluminum castings for Chrysler. The balance shaft carrier (even the one in my 2.4) is made by the same company, and i thought one other part? I'll have to go look again...

EDIT: I think this was the 'Ace Co' company - http://www.akama.com/company/Aluminum_Casting_Engineering_CO_a354d1622979.html - doesn't look like they exsist anymore. Since it was an American-based casting company, I would assume that the 'small bump' manifold came from Mexcio.
