I guess if you had to choose...id go with an EGT but you definitely need both. Or atleast skip the EGT for now and get a wideband then worry about the EGT later.

Wideband or narrow band gauge, if you simply run an EGT gauge, you'll never really know and by the time you get hot, its too late.

Hmm...I guess the real question is...what are you doing to it? If you're gonna go crazy, get a wideband. If not get BOTH

basically dropping a 2.5L TII conv into a 2.2L TI set up. I have the boost gauge. front mounted intercooler, 2.5 inch exhaust, t04 turbo. going to probably be set up at 15psi boost. I am new to the whole "gauge" deal, so heres the dumb question... whats a "wideband" gauge?

Ok...with that you're going to need a wideband. You cant run a 2.5L on a 2.2TI computer. Youll need the computer or a custom cal done.

Definitely do a search on widebands, youll need to know how to read them and know what you're looking at. Itll save you a ton of headaches in the long run.

I already have the computer. Everything's going well and as planned so far. I'm just contemplating all the gauges.

A wideband is a must these days haha. Ideally...you'll want the wideband and EGT.

I'd suggest a big digital EGT gauge that records the highest temp. Every since I started using one IO stopped melting stuff AND it is a GREAT tuning tool. If both my SRT4 and Matchbox with carb run 1390 degrees the cars are dead on. When I changed from a tall block 2.5 to common block 2.5 the car was .08 from pass to pass and the EGTs were 100 degrees low. I jetted it down on both sides of the carb and ran within .04....the EGTs were low by about 50. A couple of weeks ago a secondary jet change had the car run three passes within .018...then the next event .005! Using an air/fuel gauge.....how are you going to get that darn accurate?
