piston on the right is a 93 piston, on the left is 99 piston
(or so im told!) Notice the difference in height between the top ring and middle ring. also notice the difference in height between the top of the piston and the top of the ring

notice thering gap difference. the bigger gap is on the 99 piston. other piston is a 93 piston

left 99, right 93. 93 appears to be stronger by its shape. possibly a heavier piston.

now piston on the left has an unknown year (it belonged in bobbys daytona before he switched to 10:1 pistons) Im asking him on FB for the year right now

from what i know, the 93 piston and the piston from bobby look to be 8.5:1 pistons and should be stronger in theory due to ring placement. I melted one of my 93 pistons on 10psi but i also spiked 13:1 afr and ran more timing that i had in the past. Add a capped off stock rear manifold to the mix and you get higher egt on cyl 1 and 3. (piston one is what melted!)
i could have avoided ruining that piston with a high flowing rear manifold potentially BUT should have made sure the tune was good in the first place.

So whats the deal? the 99 pistons have the Mitsubishi symbol on them, those are said to mean they are the 8.9:1 pistons. My 93 pistons are said to also be 8.9:1 but looks like we have some possible mis information? Maybe my 93 are 8.9:1 and the 99 pistons are actually the rumored 9.3:1 (or something like that)
can someone get pictures of the 10:1 pistons as well? There are two 10:1 blocks locally here but i dont have the money to buy those just to get pictures :{

keep in mind i have not actually measured anything! But its pretty clear that the 99 pistons have the bigger gap just by looking at them. all other differences are also visable to the naked eye.
EDIT: 10:1 piston pics!
