Hey Guys

The rack on my 86 S is leaking and needs rebuilt or replaced. The problem is that I cannot find a rack. Went to NAPA no luck. Autozone as well, no luck. Rock Auto does not list the fast ratio any longer. Checked a few places on line as well, none. What do I do now??

I getting a little worried at this point.

Anyone have a source or rebuilder that will do a good job and send mine back rather than swapping mine for a slow rack??

Help!

How about switching to manual?
Added bonus: lighter weight.
And gives you an arm workout when parallel parking!

There are a few rebuilders out there. Steer & Gear in Ohio comes to mind but there are certainly others.

JORGEN AUTOMOTIVE...4637 FREEDOM DR. ANN ARBOR, MI. 48108...734-971-6700... I think the boss's name is Larry, can't remember for sure. Does great work + One week turn around of your rack! Talk to him before you ship for a quote. Even Cordone didn't have a rebuilt for an '83 Scamp but Jorgen Automotive took care of me!

I've got a reman rack in the box never used for a quick ratio L I bought a few years ago that I no longer own an L to use. Might be difficult to ship though. I can get the part number off the box later today and let you know.

When I ordered it a few years ago it there were two options in the system. I ordered the "firm feel" option listed for "Shelby" models in the system. If I can figure out how to without messing up the splines I can check the lock to lock turns for you which should confirm what it is.

I also need a new rack for an L-body build I'm doing. As far as I have been able to find out, 22-306 is the correct number for a rebuilt A1-Cardone unit. I have one of those in my '86 GLH Turbo that I installed during a big chassis/suspension/brakes/steering system overhaul I did on the car back in '04. Got it from my local NAPA. Worked out great and turned out it was in fact a 2.5 turn lock-to-lock unit.

The only thing I have been able to find so far is a R&R (Return and Rebuild) unit from Rock Auto which requires you to send your own unit in first. No core charge, but you gotta provide your own. I'm going to look into the links provided above by other members too.
