I am looking for a short throw shifter that doesn't have the funky hollow tube to mount the shift knob. Is there a short throw shifter that just has the regular threads that will fit?

Sounds like you are looking for a 523/568 shifter or perhaps the very early 525. They used solid shifter rods. The 520/555 used the hollow shifter tube. BTW the three bolts that secure the ball of the shifter to it's base are different pattern from 520 to 523. So in other words, you need to change both the whole assembly out and not just the shifter rod. The Neon shifter also interchanges with the 523/568. Do a search for maddog on this forum and you should find what you are looking for.

Thanks I sent maddog a message. Have you used his shifter? If so, how do you like it?
