i dont think oil likes to exit from under the cam very well

notice how its all puddled up. Is this something we should worry about?

it supposed to pool there so the cam lobe surfaces can stay lubed and not get scarred up from the rocker followers, especially the slider type.

Yeah i figured that once i put the can back on and noticed how the lobes got plenty of oil

I can tell you have a chrysler engine and not a mitsu by the terrible oil burn stains. Mitsu owners take so much better care of their motors, at lest in the 6 cylinder class.

I do punch out the oil returns using a drill.

my oil was changed every 2000 until i switched to synthetic and then i did 3000miles

i think it has to due with bad front exhaust flow. my rear head is very clean. that and the offset cams.

Yeah.. my dad was origonal owner. He only put 74xxx on it in the 16 years he had it. it was never beat on until i got it too. Technicaly it still has one owner because its not in my name

2000 Miles? Excessive oil changing? And 3000 for synthetic?

Quaker mistake until i got ahold of it.

2000miles isnt much to replace the oil. He drove it very little on a daily basis. to work and back.. 10min drive each way. thats about it. never let it warm up, but never went hard on it too.

every Chrysler 3.0 i have seen has had the front head gross looking and the rear nice looking. my spare set of heads was almost identical. The rear exhaust manifold in stock form flows much better than the front manifold. combined with the offset cams. Not sure how exhaust flow would change anything but thats my guess.

and yes, 3000 for synthetic. I beat the living hell out of the car and just because it has synthetic dosnt mean it can go 6000 miles. When a motor has had crap oil in it for 16 years, it dosnt mean that dirt and grime isnt left over just because you switched to synthetic. Synthetic can be used for 6-10xxx miles IF the motor never saw shitty oil and always used synthetic and is not beaten on daily. friend of mine's dad changes his mini cooper's oil with royal purple every 8xxx miles but he also is very nice to the car, it has never seen junk oil, and he drives 45min to work and back everyday along with more daily driving duties than my dads car saw.

after about 4-5 synthetic changes i switched to dino oil 10w40 (5w30 for the winter) because its cheeper and ive decided ill get a new bock and heads eventually, that and the fact that it now leaks oil (this may be fixed now, not sure yet) makes sense to run cheep oil.

main reason why i know i didnt mix the front rockers up with the rear rockers. notice the difference... both 18 years old, both have not been cleaned

Short trips are not your motors best friend for a decade worth of driving. It kills oil super fast. Back then the mistake oil may have been particularly terrible in a pennzoil oldschool style. I have heard that Pennzoil is no longer the crap that it used to be so things change.

exactly my point as to why the oil was changed at 1500-2000 miles when my dad owned it. thats just how he was

i try to let things warm up good before i ever drive, especially in the winter.
