I'm trying to get a new oil filter for my GLHS, as the FRAM one fitted isn't made anymore. I've had various ones sent me - AC Delco, NAPA etc, but they all fit my '87 Dodge Shelby Charger but not the GLHS - any numbers would be good - FRAM, AC, Champion etc. Many thanks

head to your local dodge dealer, the Mopar oil filter for the GLHS (86 and 87) are unique to those two cars only, the filters are still available from your dealer.

Why are they different? Length stipulations or something? I always assumed a 2.2/2.5 filter was a 2.2/2.5 filter..?

I just put the WIX 15335 on my GLHS. Fits with no issues. There was a 3614filter on the car. I was able to get it out without any problems, so a 3614 might fit too.

If your parts stores need to look up an application for some reason, look up a 1984 Renault LeCar.

yup, the GLHS cars have a fan shroud position that interferes with the standard 2.2L L-body oil filter so Mopar had a special part number "shorty" filter for the GLHS car, i bought a dozen of these from my dodge dealer for $5 each, the filter is silver w/ black silkscreen lettering looks trick as it matches the rest of the car's colors.

I had the same problem. The fan shroud gets in the way, but not much. I am thinking of putting an aftermarket fan in with a shorter shroud so I could use a regular filter. The $5 cost for a mopar filter blew me away. I had to pay $11 for the short filter

Purolator 10101. It is short but bigger in diameter. They are under $3.

Mobil 1 P/N MP102. Good God...I wouldn't put a fram on my neighbors lawnmower if I hated him!

Dodge oil filter FE213.

I just did a T2 conversion in my Rampage, and i put a GLHS radiator/intercooler setup in, and now i cant get that filter off (FE213) So i just thought i would let everyone know that this filter is to long and you will not be able to put the filter on (are remove it in my case, ;) ) And i am even running a 14" Flex-a-lite fan and it still interferes..

I am going to be looking into a remote oil filter setup so i can atleast run a "normal" sized filter.

Hope this helps

I installed an aftermarket fan in my omni. It is a 14" fan, but I purchased the thinnest one I could find, and I can now run a standard filter. I could probably run a 5.0 filter if I want too I guess. Plenty of room. Not too practical for a lot of the GLHS guys though.

When I had my GLHS 5 years ago, every time I ordered the oil filter at the Dodge dealer, I got a large Mopar box with a Fram Filter inside.

Lol.. I was gonna say.. Took someone long enough to put down fram. I was thinking I'd rather duct tape a bunch of newspaper together and use that over a fram... I guess it might leak.. but at least I'd get some filtering. ;)

That's weird. The Chryslers here have been using wix for years.

He should also check the front motor mount. I would imagine if it is colapsed the engine would rock forward and reduce the already minimal clearance.

The Mobil 1 MP102 fits. I have about 3/8" clearance between can and fan. There is also a K&N that works, but it has a large nut thingy welded on the end that interfeared. I had to cut it off, but the can itself fit the same as the Mobil 1.

Thats the shortest filter I have seen, unless we start talking Imports, :eyebrows:

I thought that was the shortest filter as well.. I even called Dodge and their is a special filter made for the 1986-87 GLHS cars, but when i tried to get one the closest place that had one was Detroit, and the filter was $21 dollars with over two weeks wait. So i tried almost every parts store with no luck using the part #'s on here, until i tried looking up the "84 Renault LeCar" like supercrackerbox suggested, and sure enough it was a stubby and really wide filter that has the same specs as the 2.2/2.5 filter. Thanks for the tip Supercrackerbox, :thumb:
It was pretty embarrassing asking for an 84 Renault LeCar oil filter though, :D

The Napa part number for the Renault filter is 1335
