View Full Version : 60 trim T3/T4 with a stage III turbine, .63 housing too small?

For a friend, I say its too small, might be a good street turbo but when turning it up, could be a choke point. Maybe add a .82 housing?

The VR6 guys love this turbo, boost starts at 2000 rpm.

I've still got the 60 trim with 4" cover and .68 O-trim wheel (T4 turbine housing) Never used for 500.00 + shipping ;)

Spools good in that hot side and will flow All of the 60 trims potential (500-550WHP)

You realize this is the 3.0L section, right? :eyebrows:

I do! Now that you mention it, it is a little stuffy in here :p

Well a few other guys on their board told him the same as I did, too small, if they make over 300 whp, they are killing their engines due to high egt's.

Hahahhaa.

Right, too small, as in too small of a hot side. Mine has much bigger hot side :)

My cxracing 63ar 60 trim spools a little late but have a capped rear manifold that flowa like hhell

as simon said, i was told it was a great street turbo until approx 300whp, then the turbine becomes a big plug and the egts go through the roof and the reversion causes detonation, and good bye motor.

go holset 351 with a 3.ol
get Brent to chime in with both his set up's .

The he351 turbine side is very similarly spec'd to a stg3/ .63 t3 turbine combo. Turbine inducer is the same size, exducer within 2mm of each other, 9cm housing is similar to .63 a/r according to common internet wisdom.

How much power do you plan to make?

he 351 would wind up being a plug in the same scenario due to turbine housing size. ive been pouring over what feels like thousands of threads, posts, and dozens of turbo charts trying to figure out what will be best for me.
power will depend on the results from the work im doing and fueling limits, but i want something to be able to flow up to ~20 psi.
if i had space, a engineer i work with said that the he351ve would work real nice (~3.5cm2-~25cm2 turbine housing), and he says (take it for what its worth) he could do up a controller for me. but its hard to find space for a 50lb turbo under the hood of a daytona.
likely a hx35 will get the go ahead though. the housing is bigger (12cm2) and wont be a plug for me, but will run out of flow and efficiency above ~450.
wish i had cash for a gt35r, or a pt 6765 billet ball bearing.

That O trim .58 would be decent and keep the 60 trim from surging I think.

The O trim is a .68 A/R T4 housing and will outflow a GT35r .63 A/R. Deff will Not surge and it also has the big 4" compressor cover.

I knew of a drag only DSM that made 550WHP @ 29psi with this exact same set-up. Was a little laggy on a 2.0l, but on a 2.4 or even 3.0l would be a pretty good match.

We had it made for my bro's original 600hp project, be he soon moved on to even bigger and it sits in the box in the shop. I posted it up last year (was originally asking 600.00 + shipping) but dropped it to 500.00 and had someone who said they wanted it and never came through.

So, still up for grabs!

If I did it again I would rather get a Garrett 55 or 58mm billet for my daily instead of the Holset but the holset does work. I will soon know what it feels like with stock cams. I can't give good advice about a Holset based on camshafts that don't get hot until above 4000 rpms.

Well I guess we wait, lol.

The turbo simon is looking at is not a terrible size turbine wise but the 60 trim compressor never seems to fit well with much of anything unless things are just right. I would be paranoid to try but maybe it will be fine. Never seen a 3.0 surge a turbo but there is very little history to go off of.

He isn't going to go with a stage III .63, just keep holding out for the right one.

I think the 0-trim / .68 t4 combo would be good. It probably flows as well or more as the turbine Brent made 500+whp through.

For my 3.3/3.8 turbo project i skipped the middleman and picked up a 67mm p-trim .96 a/r t4 .. hehe.

yeah im not going with the o.p turbo. i dont know exactly what i want to do so im gonna keep analyzing what i need/afford and i'll make the purchase for the correct one for my needs. i want something i can use at low boost for the first bit but also flow a bunch so i can "grow" into it when i get greedy for boost.

Shadows turbo could be something to look at Shayne!
