Okay, through headaches and numerous chats with people. Let me say thanks to Mike Reeves for nailing it dead on as well. Since I acquired the Daytona Shelby Z since August of this year. The previous owner stated that the axle was blown due to him " racing and blowing the doors off an integra " There was time and time in which I couldnt get under the Daytona Shelby Z and see what was the issue with that weird noise coming out from the passenger side during and while driving it. This issue relates to the equal length axles that come stock. Mike Reeves also told me that if the cardan joint and slinger in the equal length axle part, freeze up or the car in which the axles are in, isnt used much then it tends to stick up and it causes weird noises and especially popping noises.

Exhibit A: random laser video of a kid testing driving and you can hear that odd noise in the begining

Did you hear it? Thats the Slinger in the intermediate shaft on the axle.

Exhibit B: my 87 Daytona Shelby Z creating the exact same noise as in the first video but louder! Then about the 1:30 mark you can hear it POP!

Did you hear it? that was the Slinger again, trying to unfreeze itself from axle since it became increasingly stuck or frozen

Now, what does it take to fix ? so that if one day, im smoking a rice burner and dont wanna end up with an actual blown axle?

The short answer is! You replace it with a longer axle! I was messing around with the Slinger/Cardan joint and it kept getting stuck when I was rotating it, thus showing the culprit in this
dilemma! New video with the fix coming soon!

im still running the equal lengt axles and so far its ok , but i already have a long axle waiting , when i had the charger i went with the long axle and was driving like normal with no more noise from the passenger side !

You replace the u-joint, cheaper, :eyebrows:

I've never heard it called slinger before, I am reading and going, WTF is he talking about,

I've had my equal length on for 8 years, wore out one u-jont and have a brand new int shaft and a new bearing set up if i ever need it,

Cheaper solution would be replacing it with the long axle, unless you arent BEATING on your car like the previous owner was telling me about and " smoking cars off the line " Basically, if you keep beating it then itll probably start to seize up like mine did.

are you suggesting TVM isn't properly beating on his van?

are you suggesting TVM isn't properly beating on his van?

I think that's what he said?  Guess burnouts and drag racing with 3700 lbs isn't beating on it, hahahaha.

Plus mine gets driven year round, thru the rain, snow, sleet, :eyebrows:

U-joints seize up over time, its the nature of the beast, unless it has a grease nipple or the seals aren't damaged. The only way they fail is water intrusion and of course, wear over time but if no water gets in, they can less literally forever.

The Daytona is STOCK unlike your VAN ;)

So is the u joint popping or is the bearing on the other side dragging in one spot because the bearing is wore out? Sounds like you should replace the u joint with a heavy duty ox joint and put the new bearing on the other side.
