So im upgrading my exhaust tomorrow, I'm gonna drop the 2.25 dp and get rid off all of it. I'll install a 2.5 DP, 2.5 straight pipe and a dynomax 17749 muffler. I was wondering if i stuffed the SV with paper towels or something if I could do some quick port work to open the 2.25 outlet?? I know it sounds a little.... redneck but thought i'd ask. i dont see how it could hurt as long as the wheel stayed clean... but figured id ask rather than lose my DD.

Thanks

You could do that.

It won't hurt anything doing it that way. Sure beat pulling the turbo and breaking half the SV bolts.

Yes it does beat pulling the turbo lol. Been thinking about this for a while, but didn't want to ruin the turbo. Just wanted to make sure it won't hurt the turbo. How much can I open up a 2.25 SV??

And I never got around to changing the exhaust... had no gas for the welder, it was empty I was pissed, now I have to wait to hear my new exhaust

So this weekend, I finally put the 2.5'' DP on my dodge 600 TI. I spent a little bit of time porting the SV. My arm eventually got tired from laying underneath the car adn reaching up. I tried to focus on the most restrictive part. Didn't go crazy but I think it slightly helped (not as much as a 2.5SV of course).

The muffler I used was Dynomax 17749 muffler b/c it has proven LOW backpressure. Sounds great, way quiter than before, where it was just open cat. I took off the old pipe, put the 2.5'' on and welded a str8 pipe to the DP and Wleded the Muffler to the end. Due to the size of the muffler, it doesn't quite fit to well, but so far it only scraped once when i pulled into a steep driveway. Least to say, I'm very happy with it. My mom even thought the car seemed to pick up better/faster with the new exhaust!!

For what it's worth I've opened up 2.5" SVs to nearly 3" before. It works great.

Did you have to weld extra material on the outside? I am looking for a 2.5'' SV for my GTS and I plan on porting and polishing it myself. So the info would be good to know. And exactly how much did you open it up to?

Thanks for the info!! really appreciate it!

I didn't add any material to it, but if you did you'd be able to really hog it out big time. As it is I've done one which the 3" DP fits into nicely. I just kept at it and focused on keeping the hole round and making a little smoother transition to the outlet where there are a couple of bumps. I don't recall how big I got it for sure but I want to say that it was around 2.90" for sure.

2.25 can be ported a little biger than mitsu 2.5's. Take out the 4 outside bolts first then tap sv counter clockwise to loosen 5th inside stupid bolt.
I always delete that inside bolt at the outlet, port it smooth and cut-grind away boss on sv presto 2.5" sv...
have pics can't find em right now :/

I Already put ported the SV a bit. Can't say how much I got of since the SV was still on the car and it was a little dificult while underneath the car. How ever I did like the gains fom the 2.5 DP and straight thru muffler.
