I drive a 1987 lebaron 2.2l turbo I. I am putting a 2.5 engine into it. Will the stock transmission be able to handel the power of 14 pounds of boost in the 2.5 engine? Or do I need to modify the tranny? Any tips or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Auto or manual? What are going to do with the computer?

I've got an 89 GTC conv, was a 2.5 turbo A-413 stock. I intercooled the 2.5 and got a computer from Cindy for 14 psi, and my trans seems to handle it just fine.

Does the 87 and the 89 have the same tranny? I am buying the engine off this guy and he also has the tranny for sale but I can't afford it so I don't wanna spend the extra money if I don't have to.

The trans itself yes, but with the exception some of the input and output shaft splines and designs may be different. Check out the dodge garage and see what you can find.

They are the same but I always recommend beefing it up a bit. Modify the valve body, a bit more line pressure, stronger rear band strut, big cooler and run TDH tractor fluid. If you can find someone to help you or maybe you know a trans shop, get the 3rd gear clutch pack tightened up, for a seasoned professional, its about 30 min job.

a 30 minute job once the trans is out.. if you're going to do that you better do it now as it would be more work once the motor swap is done.

If you dont want to take the trans guts apart you can just mod the valve body. I did the line pressure bleed on a sloppy, crapping out, slipping trans and it stopped slipping and didnt break anything, but i went with a very small orifice.

Fyi anyone wanting to do that bleed mod, harbor freight sells an assortment of tiny bits (smaller than 1/16) for like $3.

I've bent the stock rear band strut doing line pressure mods so that is a must do, and its cheap, :eyebrows:
