I plan on heading up in the early AM on Friday, meeting Cordes, Joy and whoever else is in the path. Last time we met somewhere in Indiana for lunch and then caravanned from there. Hopefully I'll get another like that again this year. That was on the way to 18.

He should bring extras for those of us who aren't involved. Alan is ALWAYS thinking about himself and not the good of others.

^^^ LOL... & caravanning to SDAC events is a bunch of fun!!!

Another hotel reminder, two more days to get your room booked at the SDAC rate! Keep in mind if you are only 90% confirmed on going, you can book your room now to make sure you get the “SDAC” rate (significantly less than the regular rate) and if that unfortunate 10% chance of not going comes up, then you can always cancel the room later on before the event. Any questions, please contact me, directly, Thanks!

Yeah I think the cancellation option is 24 hours in advance, so no pressure if you have to cancel the day before. Just make sure you ask when check-IN time is. That determines the cacellation policy deadline. It's that or 6pm, which I think is right for all Marriotts.

I'll never forget the caravan of cars we had going out to Cincinatti a couple of years back. Had us Steel City Outlaws, plus the SV-TD crew, PLUS the Buckeye guys! I'll bet there were about 20 or so cars cruising along! Wish I had pictures, but I was driving and couldn't take any. I do remember somebody in an '86 GLHS driving up past everyone with a video camera. Hmmm... Wonder who that was?

You could say that. But my 4th best SDAC had to be Maryland, but that's only because I got a lead on the 2nd best place to get a nice steak in the area.

If not for that 2nd best steak, would Maryland have ranked lower?
And if you had been made privy to the absolute best steak in the area, would it have been enough to propel Maryland to 3rd best SDAC in your ranking?

JT, the website says the discount is still in effect (affect?) after Friday, and that it's just we wouldn't be in the "block" for SDAC. I am booking tonight so I am indifferent just thought I would point it out in case people are basing it off the web and not seeing this thread.

I worked on Matchbox yesterday.....took off all the old crappy inner door panels and trashed them....replaced with the same material that I had covered them with! I gained 1 lb in glue but lost......6 others. I also fixed the passenger side rear door that would not come unlocked. It was the lond lock/unlock rod going down the length of the door that broke its nylon clip...two nylon ie straps juryied it good enough to work and lasdt....but now the other side rear door has a non-op handle on the outside. I will have to peel off the freshly glued skin to get at it. The passenger side has not worked in MANY years but took 5 minutes to fix. I am also thinking of getting rid of the 20.5 x 7 x 13 slicks and using some M/T Street stickys...like these:
http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/strip.php?item=ETStreetRadialII&sku=3732R&size=P215/60R14&type=SS&bnr=y
They are over $179 each, but I have a gift card from M/t to get two tires for the price of one AND a $100 card for Summit...get the pair for just $79 and not work at changing my slicks at the track and going back to street tires again.

Good battery hold down, solid master cylinder, and decent tires. You also need a helmet no older than snell 2005, but at least in our region they have loaners.

Well I'm pretty definitely not coming now due to spending all our spare money on a course of chiro treatment because my back is f****d but while I was planning, I had the idea that I was gonna have a big tote to stick all my tools, spares, spare fluids, cellphone charger etc etc in that would normally be in the trunk or car, so I could just dump it out (and mark my "pit") for any track events.

Johnny and I participated in an autocross event like this at 19. I was on IR and could barely drive a stick car let along swing the wheel through an autocross so he gladly took the helm and boy did he! Clark also came out with his Spirit R/T. We were the only ones from the club that raced. A few others came out to spectate.

That one was not pushed as hard as this event and I think that is the reason not more people showed. We had a great time and the GLHS was a fan favorite. We had the fastest car on street tires.

This has probably been asked, I will be coming down with a GMC roadtrek camper with a trailer. Where can I park it?

BadAssPerformance
06-01-2012, 06:10 PM
The hotel has a large secondary parking lot that we took over the last time we stayed there for SDAC-18 and it accomodated all the trucks/trailers quite well. Or if you meant a campsite, I'll have to defer to the locals as I am not familiar with the closest one.

spiro440

As long as I can park my butt and sleep is just fine. I was worried that they would not permit sleeping on the lot.
Thanks.
For the autocross, registration on site?

BadAssPerformance

As this is our host hotel for the event, I cannot promote sleeping in the lot, however, I will not personally be looking for folks sleeping in the lot either.

AutoX will be handled by SCCA with on site registration only. Hope to have more specific details soon.

There's definitely not 452 people registered.Correct. The order number started with the day we opened the online store in 2005. So since then, 453 orders. And that number is for everything, shirts, clocks, Mobil 1 plaques, registrations, any and all orders.

JT and I have discussed the pre-reg numbers and the current small drag turnout (which is sort of normal for pre-reg's). JT is guessing that some folks may add drag racing once on site, and that will indeed probably happen.

LOL, it is sort of funny seeing this after the e-mail I had sent...

If anyone is planning to drag race, but not 100% on bringing the car yet, go ahead and pre-reg for the main SDAC-22 event now and we can add the drag racing option later for sure. If you fall into this category, let me know if you are so we can get a more accurate guestimate of car count to tell the track ahead of time

JT, Amber and I will be putting the pre-registration forms in the mail by week's end. I'm on the fence about drag racing right now, it will depend on which car we take. If the GLHS makes it, then hell yeah. Daytona would be pretty pointless, with the sole exception of keeping me in the running for Top Gun. Just hope the clutch holds out.

As Barry mentioned at SDAC-18 they did offer a breakfast special, but this year they would only offer a small breakfast discount with a higher room rate (more than the discount on breakfast) so we went for a better room rate instead... Apparently since 2008 the restaurant is a seperate entity so their ability to deal has been reduced.

With that said though, for those that like breakfast, if its the same spread as they had 4 years ago, its worth the money

I know you are kidding, however the C is chocolate as in 3 enormous scoops of chocolate ice cream, followed by several spoon-fuls of peanut butter. Then they add low fat milk (a symbolic gesture) and blend. Very very rich.
Only thing it is missing is bacon.......

That mostly depends on what you like to participate in or spectate, Auto X, Car Show or Drags. Of if you want to see the most different vehicles, then I would say the Car Show has the most as typically those entered in the Auto X and Drags will alse be on the show field.

I would agree. It all depends on what you are into. If I had to go only one day, it would likely be the drag day, because that is the most exciting to me. Plus you still get to see almost all of the cars in attendence around the pits and/or host hotel parking lot.

The car is still in a state of disassembly. The intake just got back from the welder yesterday, vacuum lines, charge pipes etc still need tweaking. Tuning the new combo will be done in rural NE and IA. :) Alignment and new windsheild on the list for Wednesday. A few 20-30 mile drives around the area is all it will get before the 12 hour drive Sunday; good thing I trust my work. A few things have been set aside to be packed. Gonna finish it all tonight and tomorrow. Family reunion is taking up Thursday through Saturday. I'm glad I can get a decent night's sleep next Thursday...

Actually, I really thought about getting a rear ended Prius and matting a flatbed to the rear! With both the small gas motor and the electric motor used in tandem there is more power there than Matchbox ever had..or my SOHC Neon that I race too! I have seen several fwd cars converted this way....a VW Rabbit, Olds Alero, and even a Cimeron Caddy.

I have some trepidation myself about driving all alone but it looks like everyone on my route is going to be about 20 hours ahead of me lol.

I am leaving MA around 2 on Friday, if I'm feeling it i'll drive all the way through and arrive around 4 a.m., but most likely i'll stop wherever I am around midnight and wake up early to do the rest.

I'd ask if anyone on the way was going to be around but its so vague i doubt anyone would know. I should be really easy to spot however (i'd venture a guess i'm the only Ferrari Red Daytona with a gray hood scoop) so if you see me, feel free to beep and make it a convoy =)

If you're driving late Friday and into the wee hours, watch out for drunks.... also depending where you're gonna be around 5 ish to 6 ish, you might wanna plan a meal stop then, 'coz if you're near any cities, traffic will get horrible... I think I'd try and get off an hour earlier, get 4 hours of solid mile eating, then feed and goof off for a bit until 6ish... but if you're gonna be in the middle of nowhere between 5 and 6 then it don't matter.

Whelp, go figure. At 3 hours i will be driving into Albany, NY....anyone from the area know anything about the traffic? It is the capitol city... maybe i can take your advice...if i get out a bit earlier i can be on the other side of Albany before 5 and there shouldnt be any traffic til Syracuse...

other than that city looks like everything is the great wide open, i go from there to Syracuse, to London, Canada, and back into the good old U.S.A and down to detroit.

Maybe i'll spend the night in Canada eh?

So, I am not attending, but I will be "on patrol" as it were on the section of QEW between Niagara falls and Hamilton sometime in the period of 4pm to 6pm on Friday. As I am heading up to some relatives. Have pickups on the way and will likely be dragging arse over coffee after I pick up my wife from work for a bit 'coz I don't wanna be headed into Toronto too early and just sit there in traffic. (There will be some congestion around Hamilton at that time before you turn off for London, but it is usually moving, and worse in the other direction)

I will look out for stranded TMers on the side of the road, and there's a 50:50 chance I'll have a CB on and tuned to channel 19. If I spot a TM, the idiot in the red Escort Wagon beeping and waving will be me.

For anywhere between say Fort Erie and Grimsby, the place most likely to have a TM part on the shelf, if it's not dealer only, is http://www.automotive-warehouse.ca/contact-us.php which is near the Glendale exit between St Catharines and Niagara Falls. The parts they have in stock are usually the cheapest version, but should get you home. PartSource keep later hours until 9pm usually, and most cities have one, but might not have anything much on the shelf beyond a belt, plugs, fluids etc.

The cheapest place to get gas on this stretch is usually Beamsville, get off on Ontario St Beamsville (There's eleventy one ontario streets along the QEW) take a left back over the highway, there's a choice of pioneer and esso at the next intersection, but if you go half a mile down the street over the railroad tracks there's a Petro Canada, and since they took over Sunoco, or the other way round, forget which, they usually have Ultra 94, might only be on one or two pumps though. However it will still seem damn expensive, we have a lot of taxes on it, around $1.20ish Canadian per liter for regular which is about $4.60 a gallon. Ultra 94 is probably rather north of $5 a gallon. Update your POI on the GPS if you're gonna want it to find sunoco stations here, a lot rebranded to petro canada, and some dropped the franchise and went with someone else, so you should find ultra 94 at most Petro Canadas, and you might have trouble finding a Sunoco Sunoco. Maybe gas is cheaper than there nearer London and into Windsor, but I think it's your best bet within 30 or 40 miles of Hamilton. If you get off there, there's a McDonalds with wifi if you need to check in with TM or the convoy you lost, or check ahead for travel info. etc etc. if you're really penny sensitive on the gas prices ontariogasprices.com will keep you up to date.

I will be passing back through the same area sometime Sunday in the PM, could be as early as 4ish, or as late as 9ish.
