I just spoke with the seller, sounds like the car has been a disaster for him since he has owned it. His stepfather was the original owner, but he has owned it a few years now. Turbo went out, so he bought a new one off ebay. Then the head cracked and the bottom end needed a rebuild. So all those parts have been replaced or rebuilt along with a new axle and fresh fuel pump. Non-recaro car. All the shelby stuff is there. It's only a 200 mile drive for me to go grab the thing, but I don't need it nor have the space to store it. Maybe if I can talk the wife into a pleasant weekend road trip.....

Actually its about a 12-13 hour drive from Salt lake to the bay area. I know because I lived in San Jose most of my life and have taken the trip back and forth more than a dozen times.

Someone needs to buy this car, its a good price and looks to be in good condition.

Recaros and "wide tires" were one of the few options on an 89CSX and so are used to judge the rareness of these cars.

If this guy still has this in a month or so, I am going to buy it. I had to part my 89 due to some financial problems and really regret it. Between what is left of my 89, and this car I could put together a nice CSX. I should have the money in a month, two months max.

Does anyone have pictures of the car? He didn't put any in his eBay listing (or else they aren't displaying anymore). The thumbnail on the other ad listed in this thread doesn't display anything. I'd like to get this car put up on shelby-dodge.com. Any help is appreciated. Gail

I corresponded with the seller in August of 2009 about the car. Here are a few additional higher-resolution pics from then (DISCLAIMER: These are over two year old pics, so condition of the car may have changed since then):

The seller at the time emailed me the following description:

Work that need to be done is new
windshield, the paint is twenty years old and has faded on the top and hood
and drivers side fender, the passenger side and drivers door are still
shiny. I bought a new turbo off ebay, but was told it may have sat on the
shelf to long and the seal dried out. So it may need a new seal. Total
miles on it are under 200 on the new longblock, 217,000 on the body. Small
dent in passenger door and both bumpers have fixable cracks. No rust. If
you have any more questions please call

I'll go ahead and let the cat out of the bag. I spoke to the owner tonight and will be picking the car up next Friday, driving it back to Memphis. I need to plan my route, but looks like I will head down 80 to head home OR I may head down south to Texas to visit Kevin. He owes me like 20 night stays at his place since I let him do laundry at my house so many times. :)

More to come and a project log started once I acquire the vehicle.

Yep, looking forward to getting it. I plan to do what I can to restore it on a budget, but if I can afford to do it, I'd like to get it painted and the body work done by summer of next year.

I'm not sure my route, but 80 is the fastest way home. I only have about 3 days (including Friday when I leave) to get back for work, so that's looking like the route. I'd like to go a different way, just so I can meet some new TM'ers and have thought about going down south through to Austin, maybe to meet up with DodgeZ again and visit family. If I go that route, I'll be working remotely for sure the following week.

hehe Well it will for sure be up for sale again once I have some time with it. Not sure how much effort I will put into it for now, but I'd like to get the body straight and the car reliable. Heck, if it gets me back to Memphis, one of the two will be knocked off the list. :)

Yeah Tyler I am considering coming your way. I'll be making my final plans/decisions here by next week and will let you know.

Guys I think I'm going to head across Interstate 80 and go home that way. I would love to come south through Utah and then down, but the route is way longer and I have to be available for work the next week on Monday. Three days is cutting it close to cover 1500 miles. I'm probably going to drive through to Lincoln/Omaha on the first day, then over to Tuscola on Saturday. Unfortunately I won't have a lot of time to really stay anywhere for too long, but I hope to meet up with some of the guys from the LinOma chapter Friday night. Going to post in their thread here in just a bit.

Thanks Billy, I will let you know. From what the guy told me, the car is virtually rust free, except for some rust stains in the spare tire area. That's about the only reason I wanted to get the car. Hoping for a problem-free trip back, but I will be signing up for AAA's top service level for the trip back. :D I just hope they honor new cars.

Awesome car jon and what a steal! I wish I would never have sold mine

Thanks, hoping to make something of it in terms of restoration. I more than likely will keep it, but there is an off chance I'll sell it just because I'm partial to L-bodies. I sold the IROC R/T just because I didn't know much about the TIII cars. I know the 8 valves "better" and definitely more comfortable troubleshooting problems, that's for sure. :) Looking to having TWO running cars soon!!!
