Replacing the fuel pump in my 87 NY'er. It has the newer small motor assy. Inside the hanger, the pump is connect by hose to a plastic piece with a round, dome on the side, then slides on the outlet tube. What is this and can it be eliminated? The seals in that plastic piece feel loose and seem like the fuel pressure would leak around them. Could i just connect the outlet of the pump directly to the output tube without any performance problems?

your referring to the pulse dampener inside the tank. its not necessary the log cars dont have the pulse dampener on the fuel rail like the newer 88+ cars :)
