Okay, long story short, picked up a 90 GLH Clone car, non turbo, 5 speed. Lots of suspension upgrades, nice exhaust, etc. Runs so nice. Assumed at time of purchase had a bad CV on the driver's side. Replaced axle, vibration reduced but nasty differential noise remains. Howls in any gear and neutral. Sound goes away coasting level. Sound gets louder when car leans left. Sound goes away when car leans right.

The manual says something about noise if the engine is not aligned. I want to replace the tranny, but I want an upgrade if possible to avoid future problem. Money is an issue, what should I do? Get it rebuilt? Look for a used one? Any other models I can use for the same car?

I will do the work myself, but unfamiliar with the cars. Any advice/ suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like a left wheel bearing or the diff bearings are pooched. Drain the fluid and look for a nice silver colour.

Transaxle oil looked clean. Changed the DS axle today. No evidence of bad wheel bearing. Probably differential? Do I have an A-568 transmission?

Just figured out I have 3:56 gears. Which means I have a A-525. Any suggestions on my next move?

??? omni's came with 3.05 diff except turbo 3.56 and shelby N/A 3.87.

why don't you just pop out the diff, just pull the cover and take off the 2 ends.

This one's been worked on. I have a list of parts. I am a novice mechanic when it comes to major repairs. Can I get to it without pulling the tranny? Any instructions out there?

Usually you can't see or feel a bad wheel bearing. They are a pain to change but due to mileage etc, its not a bad idea to replace them anyhow.

As for the trans, yeah, you can remove the axles and remove one side at a time, you'll need RTV to put it back together.

This thread is done, too.
