View Full Version : Daytona vs SC300 and S13 Turbo

Found out where everybody is hanging out these days and went out with the Daytona for the night. Just hanging out and chilling, not really looking for a race. But, word came around a Lexus SC300 wanted to race me (probably due to my buddy talking trash to him lol), was supposedly stock so I was like yeah sure, I'll run for fun. So off we go to a empty highway in Mexico, me w/ two passengers. Drop down into 2nd at about 35-40, 3 beeps and we nail it, and I absolutely roast him, like 7-10 cars by 80. Slow down and he wants to go again in 3rd gear he says, so we do from around 50ish. He does a little better cause it took a minute for the to spool, then I walked him again, about 5 cars by 100. Then he wants to go again, so now I'm playing with him, go from a 50ish roll again, I part throttle it through 3rd and halfway through 4th, he has a nose on me so I stick, spools up and pulls a car or so on him by 100. Then he still wants another run, about 60-65, so I roll into it then short shift to 5th and leave it floored, my nose is at his tail, it slowly spools up and then starts pulling him again, this time I run it up to about 105-110 and had a car or 2 on him again.

So then I'm like ahh, that's enough picking on the poor Lexus, lets see if his buddy in the turbo S13 240SX wants a go. He's down to to run, so we drop to about 35 and just go since neither of us have a horn He spools a lot quicker and get a car on me, I get third and start reeling him in, 4th I pull even and then a half car, 5th and I put a whole car on him. Had to stop at a store on the way back, when we got back to the hang out they had already took off. Found out from others that the S13 had a SR20DET in it, which I would have thought would roast me on the top end.

When we got back the guy in the MkIII Supra (non-turbo) that was following us wanted to see under the hood, and as soon as I popped it, the old Daytona had a throng of people checking out the "old school" turbo car lol. Which was kinda funny considering how much junkyard tech is under there :D

Sweet race man, i love beating people with junk yard crap litterally i own a junkyard and most everything i use is used lol. Being from a small town if iam wanting to race somebody people usally know i have something up my sleeve i wish we had more racing around here

Good work. Not surprised about the 300. I raced a couple of them in my caprice and they would only have me by 1 car length by 80 mph from a stop.

About the SR20s, i think a lot of people finish a stock swap and then realize they are out of money after spending $2k to swap in a 200hp setup. I am pretty sure the stock turbo is a t25, so i dont think a stock setup could make more than mid 200s hp, which you could do as well.

You should upgrade the turbo and put a port and polished head on there...

My budy has a 240 with a sr20 he says its super wicked duper fast but never runs long enough to do anything, but i guess we shal see how it compares to the old r/t. I know those sr20s make some serious HP with hardly any boost but 25ftlbs of tourqe

Spikes 19, holds 17-18 psi. I'm trying to get a good base cal for stock motors before I upgrade anything.

BTW my Daytona is full weight too, only thing missing off it right now is the AC compressor and lines. Even has a full size spare in the hatch. So w/ me and 2 passengers, well over 3000 lbs.

I heard from a local friend that bone stock sr20 in an s13 can run 13.9. Im not sure how you do that with 200hp in a 3000 lb car, but 'stock' is a very amorphous term in actual use. haha

An S13 is more like 2850ish with just a single passenger, lighter if you take strip them out.

Also, the valve cover color of the SR20 can tell you roughly how much power it puts out factory. Red and Black are the 2 most common - red is pre-1994 which had T25 turbos, and Black tops are post 94+ with T28s. If it was pulled from an S15 Silvia, could be around 250hp which would give it a rough 13.8 - 13.9 ET.. @ 200hp you're looking at what... 14.7/14.8.
