can you tell what year a tranny was made by the id # on the tranny?

pretty hard to answer since you don't state what trans model. ALL 520/555/543/523/568 have a production date on the round tag.

How do you tell what year a 525 is?? Or a 460-465??

why would it matter, and why is some other than the OP asking? there's no major or apriciable changes to those transmissions unlike some of the ones I listed like bigger input shafts and speed gear ratio changes. (ie: 1990 523 has a 1.45 3rd gear while 1992 has 1.36 3rd gear ratio)

the 460 was only offered until 1985 really rare after 1982. 1983 and 84 was 465, 525 1985-end of omni's oh and the tags on these transmission have a build-on date code. but again what difference does it make what year any of these transmissions were built?

well then look at the tag on the diff cover and read the date code. how about since I posted so much about manuals, YOU post how to ID automatic date codes?
